Hideaways Amava River Lodge, Balule, Greater Kruger

The location is beautiful and secluded, with views on the Olifantsriver (even from your shower) and a nice variety of wildlife in the reserve. Despite only staying for two nights, we saw loads of wildlife including; lions, leopard, elephants, giraffes, and even crocs from the deck at the lodge. Also, it’s a relatively quiet area so you have the sightings to yourself, and rarely bump into other vehicles. To top it off, the staff is great, with every team member going above and beyond to make your stay as comfortable and memorable as possible. Definitely not the last time we visited this lovely lodge and team!

I would recommend to book this place. - we saw: lioness with babies, giraffe, elephants (up close!), monkeys, hippos, kudu, impalas, many birds, snake and the team worked so hard to spot buffalo for us, and they succeeded! thank you again! - very intimate, not a factory lodge. Loved the comfort it gives you. I think there is max 10ppl in the lodge - almost brand new lodge, furnitures are in very good shapes, super clean and comfortable - excellent Team made of very nice people, Lillian taking care of the facilities and guests is so friendly and always there for you. Aaron the spotter is INCREDIBLE, his eyes are amazing. Markus came late as the ranger but the 2 days we had with him was very educational. He takes the time to explain what is around and with Aaron make a great Team to spot your wished game! Marvellous duo. I hope the lodge management take good care of them! We had another ranger in the beginning that was also very knowledgeable. - location is prima, very calm, unless when the lions decide to make a show at night (but that’s pretty great) you can spot some hippos and impalas on the river - tents are beautifully made but can get very very hot - food was tasty - no mosquitoes in December :)

- for the price I would have expected a bit more food in between the lunch (high tea) and dinner. At least some snacks. Fruits also were missing such as mangoes and bananas. I understand that monkeys can come and steal some so I get that they were none. But I expected a bit more services on that side - there is no lunch, it is high tea, which are snacks. It was sufficient but for people with bigger appetite might not be enough, esp if you are use to the full inclusive 4/5 stars hotel range - be mindful that the reserve is mostly bushes, not savana

Absolutely stunning experience. From the moment we were picked up at the gate we felt completely relaxed and taken care of! Already the drive to the lodge is a game drive and we saw so much with our drive crew! A very dynamic duo who had an excellent eye and appreciation for all animals. At the lodge we were greeted very nicely and surprised with lovely details to celebrate our anniversary. The tent was amazing with a nice view to the river and the food was fantastic! We wished we had stayed longer and we’ll definitely do so next time!

We had the most perfect time The lodge is absolutely stunning, the room are away from each other so there is intimacy. The location in front of the river allows us to see all king of animals like elephants bathing in the river in front of us The food is so good thanks to the chef, it was delicious The game drives were perfect and Chris was amazing, always with great care

We could not have made a better choice of lodge. The lodge is small (max 10 people), the food is great, the staff is lovely, the surroundings are very peaceful and quiet and the safari’s were unforgettable. We spotted lions, a leopard, zebras, giraffes, elephants and much more. We were extremely surprised but the quality of the food and drinks and the lovely ambiance and attentiveness of the staff at the camp. 10/10 experience all-round.

Absolutely nothing

What a pleasant surprise! This brand new Lodge offers 5 luxury tents, all with river views. My first impression was exclusivity and serenity. Early morning and afternoon game drives were exceptional. Leisuring next to the pool and spotting hippo and elephant grazing along the riverfront. The staff was super friendly and the meals sumptuous. I wish I could stay longer. Thank you to the Bundox River Lodge team. You made my stay very special!!
