Mermaid Space Capsule Hostel Palermo

The host, Kelly, was very kind and helpful—she provided all the information I needed. She checked all the time that evening is going ok during my stay. The common areas were kept clean, and the neighborhood felt safe and relaxed. The location is also convenient, within walking distance of both the bus and train stations, and close to restaurants, pastry shops, and a supermarket.

The hostel can be quite noisy, so earplugs are definitely a must. You can hear almost everything from the capsules, and even in the private room near the entrance, the door noise was noticeable whenever someone came in or out. It would also be a big improvement to have lockers in the rooms or a way to lock the capsule when you’re out, for added security. Additionally, having only two toilets (one for women and one for men) isn’t really enough for the number of guests—especially during busy times like mornings and evenings when everyone is getting ready.

Love the pods, unusual! Gave us a real sense of privacy but still had the benefits of a classic hostel, being able to talk to other travellers and sharing facilities etc. Kelly was really lovely and helpful, had some good recommendations of local spots, felt very looked after.

I appreciate it's a hostel, so can't expect luxury, but would love a little more fan power in the pods! Hard to combat the Sicilian weather, but perhaps that's my gentle English disposition!
