Hotel Campismo Praia Grande

This is a place some people won’t understand and that’s perfectly fine. However, for the true travellers among us, it’s what remote travel used to be like. Thomas is a real character and his eco-friendly hotel operates entirely off-grid. Solar power keeps everything running, even our fan was on all night and we had light. This is rare on the island. Dinner is a chance to meet new friends and enjoy delicious food around a large table. There’s no hot water, but that’s not a problem. The bed was comfortable and the location is truly out of this world. This is a hidden paradise. If you appreciate the simple things and remember you’re in one of the most remote countries in Africa, you’ll likely need a few days here. Bring euros. It’s just easier for everyone.

Everyone got to hang out with the monkeys except us. When we got there they had just moved on. Also my battery in the jeep was flat, of course Thomas helped us out and got us on the road again. There is nothing to dislike about this property. Just remember if you want a private bathroom to book the right room. And last but not least, those damn mosquitoes. Bring your repellent.

De lokatie en de vrije sfeer. De keuken is een gezellige ontmoetingsplek om andere reizigers te ontmoeten en de eigenaar die kookt en een wijnvoorraad heeft.

Ons huisje was prachtig alleen wat muf, het had even gelucht moeten worden

Back to basics feel in a great remote location. Host is very keen to help. Dinner and breakfast were very good.

Es un 10 en todos los sentidos. Se trata de un “campamento” con bungalows, algunos con baño privado y otros sin (baño compartido siempre limpio, duchas exteriores, sólo agua fría). Se abastece de energía solar por lo que no te verás afectado por los constantes cortes de luz de la isla. Con muy buen wifi en la zona de comedor. Desayunos fantásticos y completos junto con resto de personas alojadas y del dueño, Tomás. Tomás es genial, español con muchos años viviendo en África, te ayudará en todo lo que pueda, dándote información de la isla, ofreciéndote un guía para caminar hasta Cao Grande o pidiendo cena (se paga a parte) para que podáis cenar todos juntos contando historias y compartiendo vivencias con el resto de gente alojada. Por cierto, la mejor vista de Cao Grande la tienes aquí, desde unas hamacas estratégicamente colgadas.

El personal muy amable, las instalaciones muy limpias, buenas recomendaciones e interesantes informaciones sobre Santo Tomé. Cenamos dos veces y la comida estaba muy buena y abundante. El dueño nos buscó un guía para caminar hasta el Cao Grande, disfrutamos mucho de esta ruta.

Sólo había agua fría en la ducha, la carretera de acceso está un poco mal.
