The property is in excellent condition and all facilities work perfectly. The owner lives next door and is both friendly and helpful without ever being intrusive.

El alojamiento es ideal para disfrutar de la isla, para desayunar viendo el atlántico y poder tener cerca todas las atracciones que nos ofrece que son muchísimas . Además Manuel y su familia han sido unos anfitriones excelentes y han hecho que el paso por Azores sea inolvidable. Las habitaciones son amplias, con ventanales maravillosos con una cocina con todo lo que necesitas , baños adecuados y camas cómodas . Silenció en la noche para descansar. La finca es muy bonita con parking dentro para poder dejar el coche. Desde el alojamiento está el municipio de Capelas a 5kms con varios supermercados. Hay unas piscinas naturales a 5 minutos en coche o 15 caminando con miradores maravillosos y un café con vistas al atlántico. La pizzería Sole mio con take away un gran acierto o escaparse a Ribeira grande en 20 minutos en coche para ver el atardecer y comer en alguno de sus bares como de Dquina.

The host Manuel is a very friendly and relaxed guy. The atmosphere is wonderful, with large comfortable house, slightly traditional in feel, and extensive gardens (plenty of free parking) with some animals - ideal for children. We were a family of 2 parents, 2 small children aged 5 and 20 months and 2 grandparents. The rooms and arrangement of rooms was ideal for us. There are three independent bathrooms. Grandparents slept downstairs at basement level. Walk-in wet room here. Manuel provided stair gate to prevent toddler from going down there. Family slept upstairs with huge main bedroom with space for cot, main bathroom adjacent (no bath plug…) so great for children. Kitchen is ok - everything worked - and the vast wood burner produced a lot of very necessary heat. Other heating is by electric radiators. Dining table is outside on terrace but we didn’t use it as it was too cold during our stay! Manuel provided high chair as well. Location suited us but you do need a car. It’s very quiet and in April untouristy. There aren’t many eating places nearby, but there’s a decent supermarket about 10 mins away and more shops in Ponta Delgada (20 mins). It’s not a beach-oriented place and there’s no pool so maybe older children would miss that.

The Azores are humid much of the year. We think we were this year’s first guests and although dehumidifiers were provided the smaller upstairs room was a damp at first. It improved after a few days. This is probably less of a problem in warmer weather (it was drizzly and cold our first few days). Hot water for showers takes AGES to arrive. Plan to brush teeth, shave etc. while waiting! When it arrives, it’s fine. Laundry facilities are untypical but actually fine if you are prepared to hang clothes out instead of using a dryer. Washing-machine is in another building in the grounds but it didn’t bother us. Driving everywhere on Saõ Miguel is a bit scary, with very narrow roads and locals going faster than you would prefer. Properties like this are hard to find and quite expensive but it was worth it overall!

We had an excellent stay at Quinta dos Afectos. The host was very welcoming and quick to respond. The accommodation was spacious and very clean. There was a stunning view on the hills and ocean both from the garden and from the house. Would definitely recommend staying here!

The house was a beautiful traditional villa with tiled floors and wooden beams. It had a big kitchen and a comfortable living room. Outside, we had plenty of parking space next to the large delightful garden. In the evenings, we sat on the upper garden terrace looking toward the mountains and sea view sunsets. The hosts were particularly kind and helpful as we arrived later than expected.
