Chill House Flores

The property was clean, the facilities were good (particularly the kitchen) and the person who checked us in was very helpful with answering questions and organise anything we needed.

The location was not great as you have to take a small boat to the main island which is inconvenient for early tours or if you want to go out (you have to organise a private boat). However the boat ride is very quick and usually only 10 quetzals a person. The property also gets very hot as the windows don’t open. There is no ventilation.

Curtains are paper thin. Lights in the kitchen/bathroom area kept us awake all night. Very hot in the room.

The location is great, a little boat ride away from Flores and great access to the jungle and trails behind San Miguel. The shower and kitchen are good and the place is clean. The lady who manages the property is excellent. Friendly and very helpful.

The Chill House is overpriced and uncomfortable. It is incredibly hot inside, and gets and hotter throughout the day as the sun heats the tin roof. There is no security. The bedroom door doesn't lock and the front door was open every time we came back to the hostel. No one is there to supervise in the day or night. The interior walls are very thin and do not meet the ceiling by about a meter. You can hear everything from the other rooms and when their lights turn on, your room lights up.

My host Lonri was fantastic. She met me at the boat to take me to the house. There are just two rooms at the house and as it turned out I was the only one staying at the time so I did not have to share the bath or kitchen. The location is across from Isla de Flores but there are many boats and the cost is only 10 quetzals each way.

It is very hot and humid in this area so even though I had two fans I was still too hot. If you have trouble with heat I would recommend accommodation with a/c. Because of the heat I did not use the kitchen but I did enjoy trying local restaurants.

if you want to go local, this is the place. No frills place, value for money. Very, very friendly and helpful owner. When booking you need to be aware that you have to take the shuttle boat going from Flores over to the side of San Miguel.
