Apartment at Tsoutsouros South Crete

I traveled alone in December and stayed three days. The place was perfect for my needs. For 2 or more people it could be tight. However, when the weather is warm, one would be outside all day anyway. The host kindly left a portable heater which I ended using a few times when the nights got cold. The wifi was strong enough to even do some remote work from there. Beds were comfortable and the small kitchen had all the basics. The place was really clean.

This is not the host’s responsibility but the balconies seemed to have been taken over by a cat family and smelled pretty strong. Eventually I bought some cat food and fed them in a spot away from the apartment. With all the tourists gone in off season, the cats seemed very hungry.

For those with a car, this apartment is a great place to stay; it's an hour's drive (through some wonderful scenery) from Heraklion airport and the balcony (which has a table and chairs) offers views of both sea (although not uninterrupted) and mountains. Full directions were given before arrival (although entering villasouthcrete - no spaces - on Google Maps takes you straight there) and key retrieval was easy. The apartment was clean (I did find a receipt behind the bed, but nobody is perfect) and comfortable, with a well-equipped kitchen (cooking facilities are a mini-oven with two electric hobs). The local area is quiet and it is a short walk from the beach. There is private parking immediately adjacent to the property.

For directions and key retrieval, I was initially directed to a site from which the instructions (mostly on video) had to be downloaded in a fairly large file, but when I asked for an alternative, I was sent photographs via WhatsApp which I found much easier to follow. Maybe because my visit was outside the main season, but I couldn't find much in the way of supplies from the local stores (a couple were completely closed) so had to drive to Lidl (the closest is an hour away) for supplies - if you're not self-catering, this isn't an issue, but if you are, I would advise stocking up in Heraklion before driving down. The property is described as two-bedroom, but has one double bedroom with a second single bed in the living area (I was travelling alone, so this was not a concern). The bathroom, as you can see from the photographs, is very narrow and I found that I had to sit sideways on the loo - and the shower had a tendency to change temperature occasionally. Otherwise, everything was brilliant (well, the bed could have been a little more comfortable) and it was superb value for money.

Location, view are absolutely fantastic. This place was everything I wanted it to be, and the owner was very responsive and helpful. I can’t wait to hopefully come back soon!

We were happy to stay here - everything was easy approachable - sea and tavernas were close by and parking next to house. Quiet, comfortable, amazing view and the best host.

There were nothing we didn't like, everything was perfect.
