Estancia El Cangue

The location was excellent. It was out where a ranch should be, but was not so far that you could not make the 25 minute drive into Paysandú. The estancia is large and green and is both a ranch and a farm. It is home to many animals including many "criollos" (wild horses) wandering about. The room we had was very large with stone walls and antique furniture and beautifully rustic -- with amenities that were modern and comfy. The food was very good and served in nice settings in keeping with the upscale estancia atmosphere. Much of the food was cooked outdoors over open fires. The small staff was efficient and most pleasant. There were common areas that were both relaxing and good places to work - if you had some tasks to do. Above all, the family, Florencia and her three daughters, were charming, happily helpful, and interesting people. Florencia was one of those pleasant, sociable, very competent and impressive people easy to like and admire. When we left we felt like we were leaving friends and felt that sweet sadness to be leaving. If we are fortunate enough to make another trip to Uruguay we will definitely go back to El Cangue. Everyone and everything! The owner is a perfect hostess, it is a true estancia. We saw the movement of cattle for sale, examining of cattle for pregnancy, there are sheep, turkeys, lot’s of beautiful horses actually being ridden and used in the work. Gorgeous gardens, old roses, and a wedding venue. Good AC, cool pool as it was hot. Food was delicious and a nice variety. There are various options for entertainment. Riding, fishing, canoeing, hiking or just enjoying the beauty of the estancia as we did. Also two super friendly retriever’s and a toy poodle. Three cats to round off the pets that welcomed us and reminded us of home.

A great property in very quiet location. We are absolutely enjoyed the impressively huge rose garden, the dinners in fantastic atmosphere, the talks with the owners and everything else.
