Upendo Beach Boutique Hotel Zanzibar

Restaurant and common areas for pools and daybeds were beautiful.

The room itself was spacious but not well designed. For example, even though the room was huge it did not have seating so the extra space was unusable until we pulled in chairs from the common area. The patio doors were also problematic as they didn't close all they way(there was a one inch gap), the doors did not open all the way as promised because the hinges were all rusted and the curtains could not be pulled back easily. The shower in the room was also not well designed as water sprayed out to 1/3 of the bathroom whenever the shower was used. Service also felt awkward and inconsistent though we could tell they were trying. Airport transfer was arranged seamlessly but there was one day were our Whatsapp messages were not read for 45 minutes and it took around 45 minutes to arrange a taxi into Stone Town. Wifi was also very spotty at this property - which was not the case at another property we stayed at down the road. Service for meals was also awkward as we would be asked for orders before we were ready but then never checked in on again after receiving food. Overall for the steep price (2.5X the cost per night of the other property we stayed at) we did not feel the stay at Upendo was worth it.

Special thanks to our butler, Theo, who made us feel comfortable and was very helpful. The restaurant also served very tasty food. The location was ideal, not too busy beach.

We believe that it should have been mentioned that the rooms were located in a shared villa with common kitchen and living spaces. Also, the main pool was open to people who did not stay at the villa and the sunbeds were all taken by external people. It was very busy. They were doing works behind the villa and there was a lot of noise during the day.

One of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been, without doubts. Just in the beach, in front of the rock restaurant, with interior and exterior spaces incredibly well decorated. Our room in the villa was amazing, big, with alla the amenities needed, and I loved we have a pool just for 3/4 rooms and so many outdoor sofas and chairs. They also offer teas, coffees and snacks in the room that are very good. Breakfast is good and the hotel offer all you need to do snorkeling. I loved the spa services (gave and feet massages were super). Staff is kind and the restaurant is quite good.

The staff could be a bit more pro active in belong with the excursions and activities (we had to arrange one thing by ourselves).

The facilities at the hotel were fantastic. The room was spacious, unique, and perfectly well maintained. The staff were exceptional; the food and drinks were fantastic. Being right on the beach was perfect.

Serena, the Italian manager, ensured perfection in every detail. The resort's design, luxurious accommodations, and friendly staff, led by Serena, created a welcoming atmosphere.
