The Cottage Harmby

The cottage was cosy and warm with some lovely touches. The location was fantastic for us as an active family with a dog; we had great circular walks from our doorstep via Leyburn, Spennithorne and Middleham. The host was very responsive with any questions we had.

The garden/hot tub is a little over-looked, but the neighbours that we did speak to were very friendly.

Lovely cottage, surprisingly spacious rooms, a really nice kitchen and we also loved the hot tub, which was wood-fired, but easier to light and use than we expected (though you need to allow plenty of time and remember to keep checking it!). The cottage is in a corner so felt nice and private, and away from the road, so very peaceful to sit out. Although you need to move the car after unloading, the car park is very close, just at the bottom of the lane. The waterfall nearby was great, and good pavements to walk into Leyburn too (helpful for us as we have a pram at the moment).

The only tiny criticism was that the door was extremely stiff, and was a bit of a pain when going in and out to check on the hot tub (we didn't want to get smoke/cold inside so were choosing to properly shut it each time rather than put it to.) It seems only one of the two doors actually unlocks (unless that's user error on my part!) but I dont remember anything in the check in information to let us know this. Not a big deal but just a little confusing on arrival

Great location, everything we could have needed in the property. Perfect cosy cottage.

The rain caused the doors to swell so it made it a little difficult getting in and out of the property.

The upstairs was lovely Beds were comfy and bedding clean and of good quality

The Cottage was Freezing when we arrived, no rugs on the stone floors as in pictures and heating clearly hadn't been on for some time, the Kitchen wall heater didn't work, The Kitchen and Bathroom were quite frankly filthy, the cups were stained/crockery had crumbs & were greasy, the Oven had a spillage of something greasy on the base, grill was dirty and the oven dials had food and grease around them and the oven doors actually had cobwebs between the glass! The Bathroom had green mould & fur built up on the shower screen and the bath handles had muck around them, we found onion skin on the bathroom floor which had a build up of dirt on the edges. Lampshade in bathroom was coated in muck The cottage needs a good Deep clean, such a shame I suggest the owners check the cleaners work before renting out! I have emailed the owners who were unapologetic and I feel couldn't have cared less. We book cottages regularly and like rustic and old but this place was a joke!

Loved the location. Property at the top of a quiet little lane. Very country village feel. Shops 5 mins drive away. Easy access to many attractions in the dales area. The little hot tub on the terrace is a lovely additional feature. Inside the cottage the accommodation is spacious and well appointed for home comforts and the kitchen equipment was missing nothing. Everything to hand that's needed.

Bathroom needs updating and cleaning but was functional to use for a few nights stay.

Stunning little cottage with its flag stone floors and log burner made the cottage very cosy. Very well equipped. Neighbours are so lovely. Hot tub nice and private (although we didnt use it and takes to many logs to heat in October its more for summer I think. Lovely complimentary biscuits tea coffee sugar on arrival but maybe a pint of milk in the fridge would be a nice touch too. The magic of this place is the waterfall right on your door step ... it's truly magical..we see a couple more but this one for me was the best,you can get get right up to its truly breathtaking!! ...

It need a few repairs went to put a coat on the coat hock which just fell off,the toaster needs replacing although it did work fine but one knob was missing and the other feel off when you touched it ? ... the bathroom could do with some maintenance e.g the bath more so ...the rugs need to be cleaned or go as smell of dog wee also the stairs carpet.. sofa is a bit small could do with a much bigger one ?

Cottage was beautifully decorated and extremely well equipped. In a fantastic location with great walks and local pub.
