"Hoping to be able to book again for 2026 as it was superb and more to see and do!"

10.0

Most excellent. Was far more than what the even excellent pictures showed upon booking. Was easy to find location wise. Not fully in the village of Allendale, just on the outside on main road. But, there was hardly any traffic noise, even with the morning school bus and some day and evening agricultural traffic. (night time disco of tractors going up and down the wee lane!) Bus stops just outside cottage (time tables not exactly up to date - so walk in to the village!) and a post box. Very short walk into the village. (Enough to do all week in good weather-car didn't move all 1st week of 2 weeks) Only one bad day not for sitting out on the well sound insulated (thick hedge) patio. I revelled in reading through all the interior glossies and books, so my kind of think, so was a happy bunny! The Cottage was absolutely very welcoming and spotless so much so was easy to retain the cleanliness and was ideal for a singleton. Furnishings and everything you required was "Top Notch!" I loved the luxury of it all, especially a Tumble Dryer with Cupboard Dry Mode! Fantastic sounding multi-cd Player if had known of the, "Morrisey" wall hangings would've brought my own "Morrisey collection to play and sadly was unable to obtain Gladiola's in Hexham!! Found Smart TV easy to use, but found more channels working down from highest numbered channel to 1! on normal non Smart TV. There were also some really kool eclectic DVD's to also watch. Wifi - was hard to obtain due to thickness of walls and also mobile signal, even outside, but I don't personally bother about that on holiday, I just used the free availability in the village pubs!

Parking was a push for my big fat car, so I had it parked nose towards the back of the property the first week. Was worried anything going up and down the lane may have clipped it. Although there was a welcome and information folder, not much in it, but I acquired as much information when out and about, as in Scotland, great idea to close the Tourist information Centres!!! Hope other guests find it useful and informative.

"A cottage in a good town that is so well put together it just works and you would like to come back"

10.0

We don’t usually do the “everything was wonderful, 10/10” reviews that seem so common now. But this property really stood out for the obvious care and attention that has gone into building it and fitting it out. Certainly, it feels like you are using someone else’s cherished home, which you may well be? I am only going on a bit because when you experience a number of properties you notice this difference straight away. I went on the record as saying the building was generally more comfortable and useable than the one that came with an expensive villa we rented in Italy for a week this trip (putting aside the large grounds/pool at the villa). It has everything you need and you could live here for a month if you needed to - it would take me a month to read all the interesting books on the shelf. A proper kitchen and well-controlled heating etc. Getting that said, for context, this property will suit you if you are happy to be a 10 minute walk from the centre of a (proper) town, in this case Allendale, which means you have walking access to good services, a few interesting shops, a good Co-Op supermarket and a decent English town vibe. This means though, the property is adjacent to one of the main roads into town, which means it won’t be rural quiet all the time if you are in the front yard, but there is no traffic noise to be heard from inside with the windows closed (good windows, thick walls). Do note also that this property is not about views except perhaps from the upstairs windows

Nothing to note.
