Over Lake

Don't know where to start from - For Overleek, my suggestion to fellow travellers is to be sure of what you want from your time off - if it is peace, quiet, natural beauty, horses, canals, ducks, swans, long walks, bike rides, be at least 4 kms from the closest city, limited public transport access, then Ineke's place is it. She is welcoming, helpful, and lives next door in a separate house. She got us a fabulous bottle of wine (an Abruzzo) which we finished even before we had met her. And fresh eggs. Lovely! The house is beautiful - not perfectly manicured, but like home, clean and attractive. It is made of raw wood, not tiled. It is over the lake, indeed. While sitting at the patio, you cannot see the lake fully, as the reeds grow high, but a little wiggling or a few meters walk into the field across the road and you have a beautiful view. Ineke has two canoes which she offered to us, and I did indeed sail into the lake. Stunning. It is mostly quiet, with non intrusive and courteous neighbours. The kitchen has everything you could need to make yourself comfortable. The bedroom is large (i do not need much space and it seemed like a palace to me). All fixtures are functional and useful, including the lights. There are hens (yes, the ones who laid our eggs) in the backyard who will come inside to greet you if the door is open. The backyard is overgrown, but that is charming for me, and flowers grow wild and free. Parking is no problem and you slot in right next to Ineke's car; if you have an RV or something much bigger, suggest to talk to her in advance as there is no other parking in front of the house. It's the countryside, and the roads are narrow. One follows garbage segregation and the house has clearly marked bins right outside. A car or a bike is useful to have, else, unless you are a big walker will be tough to get to store.

The living room is not a lounging place but a true sitting area. If there are children who want to lounge, not the place for them. The one thing I recommend you carry is a shower cap. Unfortunately, I couldn't find one in the market close by. The shower cubicle has only one head rain shower up top. I had to do a little jig each time I showered to ensure that my hair doesn't get wet but you cannot avoid it in totality. Nothing that a good old cap will not take care of. Or Ineke, if you could, maybe add a hand shower if the area allows it.

We had a truly relaxing and wonderful weekend at Over Leak. The house was absolutely perfect – spotless, modern, and extremely comfortable. It was fully equipped with everything we needed for a memorable holiday. The stunning views, the beautiful backyard with chickens and fresh tomatoes, all surrounded by nature, made it an ideal getaway. Our host, Ineke, was exceptional. She was warm, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure we had a great stay. Her kindness and attentiveness made a real difference. The location is perfect for anyone seeking peace and tranquility, with plenty of opportunities for cycling, walking, or canoeing. It's a paradise for nature lovers. We will definitely return without hesitation and highly recommend this wonderful place to anyone looking for a serene retreat.
