Menaggio Down Town

Great location and responsive staff

The apartment (D, on the ground floor, « split level ») was dated, damp, full of mold, and dirty. Broken furniture, mold in the shower, hair in the fridge, you name it. You could also hear the entire neighborhood, from conversations on the phone to toilet flushing, and of course the restaurant across. It ruined our stay in Lake Como.

The location was amazing since it is right in the heart of downtown.

Parking is confusing better off Parking overnight in the garage. Also there is no wifi even though it states this is available in the Facilities section of the listing.

Excellent location, well appointed and clean apartment, quiet at night, with a private garage.

This is only a personal preference and that’s why I gave a 9 instead of a 10. I like apartments with a lot of light and because mine was on the first floor, it was as a little dark. Many people like that do they can sleep better, but I prefer a place with sunshine coming in. The place has another apartment on the second floor that looked very sunny, but mine wasn’t. And it doesn’t have internet!!!

The place where we checked in was not a place to stay, and it was hard to find, so we were confused and lost our way. We called the store several times, but they couldn’t understand English well, and their attitude was impatient, and they refused to come to pick us up many times, always emphasizing that they were very busy Very busy, let us find it by ourselves, and in a very tired situation, it took a long time to make a phone call, which was delayed for more than half an hour, which was frustrating. Also, the room was very dusty and seemed to have been lacking in cleaning for a long time, which may have contributed to my skin allergies and poor sleep. Not recommended.

I really loved having our own spacious apartment in the heart of Menaggio so close to wonderful walks along the lake and all the restaurants in town (Il Vapore was our favorite in town - if you have a car, ask the locals for recommendations outside of town). For young children there is also a playground right next door. We love having our own kitchen with a full-size refrigerator so that we could have a relaxing breakfast in the morning in our pajamas and store our own beverages and food. There is a nice bakery Il Fornaio and a Conad supermarket a short walk away. It came with a private parking space downstairs. It was a short walk to the bus that goes around the lake and the PostBus from Menaggio to St. Moritz. A slightly longer walk to the ferries that take you around Lake Como. The AC worked well - a huge plus this summer! It is run by the Hotel du Lac and thus was easy to show up there and have someone provide the keys to the apartment and show us how to get in. They were very responsive to needs and when we requested a clothing rack (it was strange to not find one when there is a washing machine but no dryer), a new one with new clothing pins arrived on our doorstep almost immediately. Both bedrooms had excellent storage space for clothing.

The apartment was great overall but there were just a few small things. Perhaps because it was midsummer (or they were being cleaned?) but all the carpets had been removed and the decor was less home-like and more hotel-like than I had expected from the photos on Booking.com. I was surprised there was no coffee maker or even a Bialetti stovetop espresso maker in an Italian kitchen (many hotels and bars in close proximity to grab an espresso at, so not a big problem but complicated the morning routine) and the kitchen was not adequately stocked for extensive cooking (fine for making an omelette and eating muesli). The washing machine spin cycle did not function well and my clothes were still very wet (not properly spun) when they emerged. Thankfully, they dried quickly on the balcony in the summer sun but I would not trust this machine in colder months.
