Fantastic location, exceptionelly great host Mahesh, hot shower, room with fan and AC, really nice and knowledgeable rikshaw driver Pareshu

There is nothing quite like being in the bizarre in Hampi. It is utterly ancient and filled with wonderful indian people. Mahesh was a great guide. And his driver Parashu, got my out of a right pickle when I lost my cards.

I liked it all. I didn't need the AC as it wasn't hot enough, but good to have. I watched Bollywood movies on the TV for fun at night.

I was not allowed to stay by Mr. Mahesh, owner of the Guesthouse. He is a swindler of the highest order.

I booked a so-called 'genius' deluxe double bedroom for 7th and 8th December for a total consideration of Rs.3856, at Hampi. Though the condition was to pay the property on arrival. However, Mr. Mahesh rang me up on 29th November and demanded an advance of Rs.1000/-, which was paid immediately through UPI. On arrival at the property, I found the property is located in a nasty, slum- like area, though a stone throwing distance from the Virupaksh temple. However, real shock was yet to come. Mr Mahesh said that his guesthouse is fully booked and he arranged my stay in a Homestay of his neighbour. When I argued about his conduct, he and one other person started insisting (read bullying) me to put me to the homestay of his neighbour. I then asked him to return my advance of Rs.1000/-. Mr. Mahesh flatly refused to return the advance. Finding no alternative I accepted my stay in his neighbour's Homestay namely Riverside Homestay. Mr. Mahesh then forced me to initiate cancellation in Booking.com with 'free cancellation charge', reducing the total charges by Rs.486/- (perhaps the commission of Booking.com) and readjusted the total charges to Rs.3,370/- for my 2 days stay in his neighbour's Homestay. He took Rs.2,370/ in addition to my advance of Rs.1000/-, but didn't give me any receipt. In Riverside Homestay, I was given a rooftop room of the size of 80 sq.ft. at the most with a tin roof, where monkeys often come and make loud noises. The room lacks basic facilities, no hangers, no soap, hardly any place to keep even a small suitcase. However, the lady managing the homestay was polite and well behaved. When I asked her about the room charges, she said it varies from Rs.1000/- to Rs.1300/-, depending on the seasons. Thus, it was clear that why Mr. Mahesh collected Rs.3,370/- from me even after not allowing me to stay in his guesthouse. Instead of actual charge of the Homestay of Rs.2000/-, he took Rs.

Mahesh and his family did a wonderful job of looking after us. The location was perfect for getting out and about in Hampi. Parashu was sensational in guiding us around the many ruins of Hampi. He was both personable and knowledgable and he made a great experience greater.
