Captain Cook Riverside Walk

Great quiet location with everything we needed. Contrary to some of the reviews it was lovely and warm, and even when we arrived back before the heating came on it soon warms up.

Idyllic location next to the river Esk, with abundant wildfowl and other birds to observe close by. It is within walking distance of Whitby town centre via an attractive public footpath which includes a viaduct over the river Esk.

The accommodation was clean and tidy, in good condition and good value for money.

The accommodation is excellent with clean, modern furniture and appliances. There was an adequate supply of household products on arrival - washing up liquid, cleaning products and cleaning cloths etc which we weren't necessarily expecting. The location is beautiful, overlooking the river and overlooked by the Larpool viaduct. There was always interesting wildlife to watch, especially the herons, egrets and ducks. There is a convenient parking space for the house nearby. Although the back garden is shared with the other three houses we found it quiet and secluded during our stay.

As good as the accommodation is, some of the fixtures didn't match the same level of comfort. The main bedroom is restricted by its size and it is difficult to get into the bed due to lack of space; obviously this is something that the owners cannot rectify, but it might be worth pointing this out. The quality of the bedding is poor; better quality mattress, pillows and bedding would match the high standard of the rest of the accommodation.
