Hostal Santa Marta

A really interesting building in a good location. I was lucky enough to have the entire dorm room to myself, which made for a very comfortable night's stay. Providing a free towel and water was a really nice touch!

No one speaks English and my Spanish is poor so the initial check-in was a bit chaotic. Things eventually improved when another lady arrived and provided much-needed assistance and guidance! There's a glass window that allows other guests to look directly into the dorm which is a little strange, but other than that it was a cool stay!

Bed was comfortable, good shower when there was water, clean room

Staff were rude and changed price of booking on arrival to charge us more, the wifi was non functional and there was no water in the bathroom for several hours. Staff were not accommodating for later check out time and expected us to be out of the room at 9:30am despite not telling us this at check in. No lock on the door so staff walked straight into the room without knocking at 9:30am. Parrot and budgie in a cage outside the bedroom door squeaking and screaming the entire night. Gaps around the door so all outside noise could be heard and A/C less efficient. No curtain on bedroom window and the general property is a building site.

Freundliches Personal und Besitzerin. Zimmer war klein aber sauber und komfortabel und die Klimaanlage leise und hat gut gekühlt.

La unión ist sehr heiß, aber dafür kann das Hostel nichts. Klimaanlage kostet extra, aber das wussten wir vorher und finden es auch fair.

No hot water, no shower head

Ideal for a one night stay before taking the boat to Nicaragua. The room we got was quite basic but had aircon which was much appreciated as it is very warm there. Only a short 5 minute walk to the main square and restaurants, and also 5 mins from the port to take the boat.

It’s a bit expensive for what you get, and there were a couple of cockroaches in the room which is never nice
