It’s perfectly geared towards climbers. No nonsense and simple

It’s basic but also it’s rock lands and for the price it’s brilliant so I can’t complain

We had the most incredible long weekend at Alpha Excelsior Guest Farm and honestly could not have asked for a better escape. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed so warmly by James, which immediately made us feel at home. The caravans and accommodation were perfectly equipped with everything we needed — comfortable, clean, and thoughtfully set up for a relaxing stay. It truly felt like a home away from home. The setting is absolutely breathtaking. Surrounded by mountains and nature, it’s such a peaceful and serene environment. We spent our days exploring the beautiful hiking trails, cooling off at the waterfall, and even enjoying some kayaking on the dam — all of which made the experience even more special. One of the highlights was definitely the lovely interaction with the rescue donkeys — such a unique and heartwarming touch that added to the charm of the farm. If you’re looking to truly unwind and reconnect with nature, this is the place. We thoroughly enjoyed every moment and can highly recommend Alpha Excelsior to anyone looking for a memorable getaway. We will most certainly be returning!

"very pleasant with a few upgrades and attention to detail needed."

7.0

The views and location was amazing, and the use of the canoes on the dam was great. The waterfall hike was the highlight for us, and the dogs on the property are amazing with children and guided us to and from the waterfall.

For the caravans, include better utensils like bowl for salads, and a braai bak to put meat in. A microwave in the communal lapa would also be very helpful. We didn't receive any communication from the hosts regarding our checkin, and on late arrival had no idea regarding checkin with no reception on how to contact the host. We did luckily find the wifi passwords at the reception door, but the wifi passwords were conflicting. A map of the property would also be helpful as we struggled to find the dam and walked around aimlessly until we found someone to get the directions (the henhouse was closed). The use of the pool which we were told was only accessible to the cottage guests is a bit off-putting - if no-one is using the pool, then why is this not accessible to all guests including those in the caravans? The caravan we booked was not adequate to sleep two people with the bed being described as a double it was closer to a three-quarter and more suitable for two children. The sheets need replacing.

"Great place! Wonderful spaces & good value for money"

8.0

The facilities were brilliant, the shared space with a pool table and BBQ facilities kept the children entertained and was a lovely area to relax in. The dam and boat house made our trip. Our accommodation was good value and reasonable for the price range. The walk to the waterfalls is wonderful to do with young children.

"Great stay in vintage caravans, fun adventure for a short stay!"

8.0

Great place to stay in a wonderful location! The caravans are a fun adventure in themselves! A little run down, but I think also part of the fun of it! Only stayed one night as passing through, but close to the San Art trails. Onsite restaurant and have their own hiking trails to a waterfall. Caravans are quirky, but have cooking facilities, outdoor seating and a large fridge for storing food and drinks for a braai. They also have a communal area for getting together if coming as a larger group. Went in the down season, and was still a great time away

I would look at updating some of the caravans, keeping their vintage charm, but ensuring the basics such as the blinds/curtains are fully working, maybe deep cleaning of the mattresses might help with the mould smell in them etc
