"Design heavy hotel with an austere aesthetic. Convenient for Kyoto station"

Conflicted about this. I loved the design aspect of the hotel and the evening sound and light show on the main staircase. The rooms had a severe modernist aesthetic which I quite liked. The spa area has recently changed its policy and does allow people with tattoos to use the bath and hot stone areas. However, this area is also quite dark and a supplementary cost (which just seems petty given the room costs).

Terrible outlook onto a building and when you are staying in something that is already full of concrete this just made me sad The garden is was closed off the entire time we were there. This makes me suspect that it’s always closed. I wanted to sit in it one day to relax and ended up with no option but to sit in the bar / tea area. There is no lounge or easy place to sit in the foyer. It’s convenient for Kyoto station but this means it’s some distance from the main sites for Kyoto. Nice concierge team but beware they are not open in the evening!
