Shangri-Lao Resort

If you are okay being out of the busy streets of Luang Prabang, this is a great location. On a quiet river co-located on an elephant conservation property, it is a great place to relax and chill. Staff and service fantastic.

Сложно выделить что-то одно! Место абсолютно не пригодное для проживания. Сантехнику всю просто надо выбросить. Ночью температура внутри комнаты +10 градусов! Отопления нет. Я замерзла и заболела. На утро я попросила решить этот вопрос или вернуть мне деньги за вторую ночь - не вернули, у людей нет совести. Вечером поехала в город за лекарствами - никто меня не предупредил что уехать обратно можно только до темноты. В итоге пришлось искать гостиницу в городе, платить за неё - и не получить ни слова извинений. Зато уверенна, что под этим отзывом увижу их сожаления о моем испорченным отдыхе. Не портите себе отдых.

Absolutely charming property. A little older, but that added to the charm for us, a little patina, lol. The view is outstanding, the room, a little romantic with the draped ceiling. Beautiful grounds, great food at the restaurant. Lovely and peaceful. Would come back for sure.

Some toiletries would be an added bonus.

The view from the balcony is beautiful, as well as the surroundings. In the morning you can see the elephants crossing the river.

When we checked in we received absolutely no information about the place. We booked this place cause we thought it was a sanctuary for elephants, however when we arrived the elephants had been taken to another place for the evening (I assume the share them between the nearby resorts?). They have an ostrich in a small enclosure - which was pretty random, but also really sad, as the animal was clearly stressed. I would think people chose this place for the nature experience, so an enclosed ostrich is not the best way of promoting animal welfare. Besides that there is nothing to do in the evening. - which is probably why there were no other guests around as people will drive 30min to be in Luang Prabang instead. The place is very run down. The room smells really strongly of air freshener, which gave an instant headache. The bathroom was not very clean - there was a used bandaid on the floor and no amenities beside a bar of hand soap. The room which is designed as a “tent” is formed by really heavy burgundy drapes, and it was really dark and impossible to see anything when it was dark outside. This place needs a thorough renovation, cause the view and location would have potential, but until then I wouldn’t recommend staying there.

Everything - The location with the river in front, the proximity to the elephants in the sanctuary was just beyond unique and beautiful. The beautiful tented river view villas with their big balcony was pure indulgence, from there we got the chance to observe the life of the Lao people farming and going about their lives by the river. We were also entertained several times a day by the elephants being fed and bathed by excited tourists! The landscape was simply magical from dawn to dusk, from the heavy morning mist to the star filled skies at night. The sense of peace and tranquility, unfortunately broken by Mr Pun blaring loud Lao music over 2 days of the New Year, and relaxed pace of life in Shangri-Lao will stay with us for a long time - until we return! We were very well looked after by Fong, her team plus all the guys in the resort - a big thank you!

What an unexpected treasure. For a natural experience you can't do better. Interacting with the elephants in this beautiful and serene environment was just GREAT!
