Pantera Lake House Ahangama

Photography gets a solid 5 stars. Reality? Barely a 3. Unfortunately, we booked this place to stay, not just to admire in pictures. First off, cleanliness was a letdown. We had to clean the tables, the kitchen, and even the outdoor furniture ourselves. And that stylish-looking bathtub? Better for photos than actual use—it needed a serious scrub. Then there’s privacy. An outdoor bathtub sounds great until you realize there’s no boundary wall on one side, meaning you’d better bring a swimsuit. That was a first for me. Even if there were a wall, the CCTV cameras in the garden made sure we never felt truly private. Security is one thing, but this isn’t how you do it. To top it off, dogs from neighboring properties wandered in freely because of the missing boundary. They left a mess in the garden and even walked through the house. We love dogs, but if we’re the ones making sure they don’t damage the furniture or carpets, that’s not okay. Then there’s the water situation. They provide drinking water only once—in an old reused bottle, and it’s just filtered tap water. Seriously? At $150 per night, you can’t even provide fresh mineral water daily? Real shame. And for that price, we expected at least some level of service. But on the second day, despite paying the same rate, we got nothing. No cleaning, no refills—nothing. It’s clear the owner saw this as an easy cash grab but has zero hospitality experience. Wouldn’t recommend unless you’re in the mood to do everything yourself.

We loved the privacy of the villa and the proximity to the beach. Just a 2 minute walk!

The villa is nice and the location is very convenient and close to the beach. The bathtub in the garden is really really great! The design is superb and it's very comfortable size for 2 + small child. Grass is very soft. The view on the lake is great. No mosquitoes.

We've asked for the earlier check-in and got it confirmed via email to be ready at 1pm. We've arrived at 2 and the villa was not ready. I haven't received the code to get inside neither. Considering being pregnant with a small child it was a big inconvenience, the property didnt answer the phone. I went inside and the sheets were not changed, there were no towels, trash in the garden etc. Nobody apologized or tried to make it up. The property should be better protected from the sides, so the dogs wont come to the garden. They poop there, nobody cleans. One night I left my underwear to dry outside - in the morning it was all tear down. I guess it's the dogs. There should be antimold tratment done and better house isolation and ventilation. It's super hot, humid and smelly (because of the mold). We were very hot inside the villa and AC didnt work the first day.

Maybe the most beautiful views I have ever seen in the jungle (flocks of birds coming and going at sunrise and sunset) and a porch to enjoy not only these stunning views, but life itself at its fullest. Also special mention to the fact that one of the most famous waves (Sion) is a two minutes walk away 100% recommended 🙌🏾♥️🙌🏾♥️🙌🏾

Now, I had the most terrible experience with this property. And I am going to give my honest review about this place and the owners that run this place. I made my reservation via bookings.com on Friday the 9th of August. I made the reservation late, and I left colombo around 5 pm. The property called me while I was on my way, asked me what time I would arrive, I told them, looking at Google Maps, the tentative time i would arrive at their property. I was driving for 2 hours, came the way from colombo but when I arrived at the property, the gate was locked, their wasn't a soul to attend to us, i was calling the property for a good 20-25 mins no one answered the phone and the road that led to this property is extremely narrow, I pulled over in the corner of the road but my car was blocking the road, it was an extremely uncomfortable and frustrating situation as no one from the property responded to my calls. Needless to say, after 35-40 mins later, a man comes and opens the gate for us. What a welcome that was. Now i understand people make mistakes, and that's ok. The manager apologized for what happened, Sreeni was very nice and tried her best to make up for the mistake. The whole reason why I am writing this review is because of the owner. I contacted the owner by the name PILAL, this gentleman isn't a local, and he wasn't In the country at the time, but I made sure I contacted him via WhatsApp and tell him about the uncomfortable experience I had. I paid 24000lkr a night, but this guy tells me that it's my fault for coming after the check-in times and that his staff was doing me a favor by letting me check in late and sent me the link to the bookings.com guidelines. Wow, I was beyond shocked to see all the staff apologizing to me, but the owner pointing his finger at me for their own mistakes.

Good location near to restaurants in Ahangama. The overall style of the villa was nicely done.

It was self check-in & when we arrived the place hadn’t been cleaned - there was old food all over the kitchen, in the fridge, trash all over the floor & in the garden. The staff came quickly but were not very friendly or apologetic. They also tried to overcharge us with a different exchange rate & then used the excuse that staff would get fired if they didn’t collect this exact amount - which felt a bit like blackmail. Overall wasn’t a very nice first impression. The garden area was overgrown & smelled like sewage.

It was an amazing atmosphere, bath and everything else. Definitely living room was super nice. And toilet and the whole house !

Hot. Very hot. Impossible to stay inside during daytime. A/C only in the bedroom. The fan in the living room won’t make it. The concrete warms up and stays like this all night. I think it’s due to the roof. It’s just one concrete panel with no dome. The neighbour on the left has goats. If you like that true village vibe, than it’s cool. There is a somewhat bush fence with the right neighbour, so no walking naked.
