Kyoto Ryokan Kinoe

Fantastic experience, food was amazing and place was spotlessly clean. Staff very friendly and helpful and you couldn’t beat the location.

We and our teenagers enjoyed the unique experience of staying in this ryokan. The service was exceptional and the facilities were clean and comfortable. We paid to include meals with our stay and absolutely enjoyed the dinner served in our room. It was a highlight of our time in Japan.

The Ryokan was literally 3 minutes walk from Yakasa Pagoda in Gion's heart. The room was beautiful, spacious and the tatami gave the "japanese tradition" feeling to our staying. You can enjoy the public bathroom available in the facility.

We thought we booked for breakfast and dinner, which later we discovered was not included. It seems it's not possible to book them from booking and when you arrive at the Ryokan it's already too late to get a slot

Not much unfortunately. We was greeted so rudely at arrival by a man on reception, who was rude, which made us feel really uncomfortable, that they didn’t want us to be there - really strange to treat guests that way. The evening dinner was nice and the ladies who made up our room was very sweet.

The customer service by the man on reception was terrible, no help with the luggage, told us there was no food for the children but still charged us for it. We asked to speak to the manager twice but was told the manager was not there. Check out was at 10am, very early compared to other hotels in Japan. Breakfast is only served between 7am and 8.30am, when we came back to our room after breakfast the beds were gone already. Basically now you have to leave as there is no where to really sit in the room but on the floor. The reason we booked this accommodation was to experience a traditional Japanese Ryokan, everything was old, but not old in a good way, the rooms were extremely hot so we didn’t sleep well, even with a fan. The price for the room was very expensive so we really expected much more value than what we got. I really wouldn’t recommend anyone staying at this hotel. They make you feel very uncomfortable and that they don’t want you to be there! We have stayed in Japan for 3 weeks and this was the worst hotel and worst experience of our entire trip! Such a disappointment. I hope the owner reads this and gives the man on the reception desk some training in customer service, absolutely shocking!! I hope this review helps and saves other families from going through the same experience!

The food was amazing. The staff we exceptional. Over all a great experience.
