Fable Cottage Luxurious Stay

This was a nice property only a few minutes walk from the town centre with on street parking in front of it which was never an issue. The property was very clean with the exception of that listed below.

On arrival the dishwasher was full of the previous occupants dirty crocks which I find completely unacceptable. The oven was so dirty we chose not to use it. The outside bins were overflowing and had clearly not been emptied for a considerable period of time.

Location albeit up a hill, we are walkers so we found this no problem. Parking was great, just outside the property. Overall the property was clean and comfortable.

The steep and narrow stair case at the bottom of the stairs was a problem for us in advancing years. The bathroom and toilet downstairs was another dislike for us. No instructions on how to use the Samsung main cooker.

It was cosy and well equipped, as well as very central.

This is a beautiful little cottage up a short hill in the heart of Bakewell, it has lots of character and is a perfect place to stay to enjoy the quaintness of the local area. It was lovely sitting in the evening on the big sofa snuggled up watching the TV. The beds are comfortable and there is plenty of space to unpack your clothes for a few days. We were very fortunate to have the sun come out for the three days we spent there.

The only reason my rating is as it is is purely down to my disbelief that I had no response at all to the issues that arose whilst at the cottage. Whilst out walking we were contacted to ask if an engineer could go in to do something to the shower…. We accommodated this, not an issue at all. However, on returning there was a note saying we couldn’t use the shower until the following morning. As we had been hiking this was a huge let down as we were all sweaty and had planned to shower and dress to go out for a meal. I communicated this - no response at all. We decided to stay in and get food in for a nice meal but when we opened the dishwasher, a stench came out of it, we put it on a wash cycle but it was worse. The following morning I sent a messsge to the booking.com system hoping the owner would see this. Nothing, until I received a text saying ‘I would like to check if everything is in place for you checking out today’ I responded saying I had sent a message to the booking.com system for them. The response was ‘I will check the messsge and respond accordingly’ We have heard absolutely nothing! All I wanted was acknowledgement and maybe ‘sorry for your inconvenience’ and ‘thanks for letting us know, we will get it checked before the next occupants arrive’ but nothing which is don’t understand.

Perfect location for discovering the area. Lovely and very comfortable.

dishwasher was holding stagnant water- really smelly when we opened it. Shower drains really slowly too. Small things but for nearly £300 per night it was a bit annoying.
