NYLA Boutique Resort Siargao

The facilities were beautiful and since there was a big table people gathered around it so it was very social. There were baskets in the bathroom for everybody to keep their stuff in. The staff was very helpful and you could book everything you needed at the hostel e.g. tours, surfing, motorbike.

I was expecting there to be more focus on yoga and wellness. Many people staying there were heavy drinkers and nobody did yoga so I would have been the only one if I would have booked it. It was also expensive. There was no area to hang by the pool so nobody used it. The location was quite far from the center so one should budget for a scooter rental for the stay. The restaurant was expensive. The upper beds had very steep ladders and they were high up so I didn't feel comfortable with my upper bed. Unfortunately I had a hard time switching to a lower bed supposedly because other people had requested lower beds prior to arrival and there were no available although people checked out. I later found out that people actually hadn't requested lower beds, which I found odd. Eventually, after requesting it 4 times and contacting booking about the issue, after my third night I was able to switch beds.

Stayed in the dorm, beds comfy. The nicest toiletries provided in shower. Provide a basket in bathroom for each guest to store things which was a great touch. Free drinking water. Cafe/restaurant with nice food. Big table in the dorm which was handy. Pool (we didn’t use but it is there). Can arrange scooter rental through them which is great. Staff very helpful and kind

No laundry service however there is a shop across the road which was good service. Unfortunately during our stay there were power outages on one of the days and it was very difficult as not only did the power go out but so did the water. All guests (8 per dorm) waiting for the 1 shower. And when they managed to fire up the generator finally the power only lasted for about 10 mins and the lights and water went off while in the shower with shampoo and had to wait another 15 mins for them to fix the generator in the dark. Curtains flimsy. Only 2 toilets, 1 shower per 8 people.

Before check-in, I came early to drop off my backpack as requested as I was changing hostels, the staff was nice and told me that I could keep my backpack in a small storage room for safety as I did not want to leave my bag at the front desk in the open . When I was removing an item from my backpack in the small storage room, I accidentally knocked over a pack of water which knocked over a 20L refill water bottle that contained a yellow liquid that spilled on the floor and my backpack. Luckily I had a quick reflex to pick up the 20L bottle to avoid any more spillage. I could smell a strong odour of diesel. I informed the staff about it and apologised to them as it was an accident. The bottle was not sealed properly and a safety hazard to keep the highly flammable liquid in a 20l water refill bottle. The staff was quite nice and came to clean as I wiped my backpack but couldn't get rid of the smell. Upon arrival At check in time I was presented with an invoice to pay for the spillage which was not cheap invoice . I spoke to the staff and a lady who I believed to be the owner. She agreed to remove the extra cost after I explained to her that it was an accident as the storage room was not ideal for hosts as it was too small. I'm glad she didn't make me pay for the 1 litre lost in spillage. Other than that I did not like - The smell from the bathroom/toilet. No place to hang out your wet clothes, they provide it outside but not ideal when it was raining none stop when I was there. Also Little Stuart (mice) visit at night in the bathroom. It didn't bother but might be a shock to others.

I had high expectations for my stay at Nyla since they call themselves a Boutique Hotel, but unfortunately, it was disappointing. Upon arrival, the room had a strong, unpleasant odor, the bathroom was not properly cleaned, and to my surprise, the bathroom door was completely missing—something that should never happen in a hotel. I reported these issues daily, but staff only provided excuses rather than solutions. After several complaints, they finally sent a team to clean, but the bathroom door issue remained unresolved until the day before departure. Management did offer a (very) small refund, but this could be claimed with Gcash which I don't have. I wouldn’t stay here again unless they significantly improve their maintenance and responsiveness. They should definitely change their name to Hostal. This is not a Boutique Hotel.
