Parapat Water Village Resort

A bit away from crowd of Semporna, in the middle of nature. Accessible by foot so feeling more free than in other resorts of this wooden chalet type of accommodation’s. Very peaceful. Management is super helpful.

Easy to reach location. They can book cab for you from the airport at a paid price and also island experiences. Just get in touch with the hotel. The food was awesome, so was the location of the hotel. Not to far from the mainland.

Washroom accessories were not properly maintained. The gyser stopped working, some of the switches were not working and no TV. There was a restaurant but it only served dinner and breakfast and hitea. We couldn’t order basics items like snacks. However there is a lady at the shore who sells fried items and maggie.

The setting of the hotel is undeniably beautiful — peaceful, calm, and ideal for relaxing and the staff is very friendly.

However, the experience was seriously let down by multiple issues that made the stay very uncomfortable. For two consecutive days, there was no electricity. That meant no air conditioning, no lights, and — worst of all — no running water, since they rely on electric pumps. After spending long days out island hopping in the heat, coming back and being unable to take a shower was incredibly frustrating. The Wi-Fi was also not working at all throughout my stay. On top of that, in the four nights I stayed, the room wasn’t cleaned even once — no fresh towels, no trash taken out, no housekeeping whatsoever. If I had wanted a remote, off-grid experience without basic comforts, I would have gone camping for a fraction of the price. This place has potential, but it desperately needs better management and attention to guest experience.

The staff is nice and helpful. The view is very nice and it is a quiet location (but quite far away from towns!). The situation of these bungalows above the water is quite amazing and the resort is nicely decorated. They serve us meal when we arrive and it’s all included.

Our room was quite basic, just a bed, no furniture to put our stuff on, a kettle but no coffee/tea, TV not functioning, no WiFi. Bathroom needing some improvement. Hot water barely lukewarm, shower head leaking, mini sink with loose tap. Shower water going straight into the sea, but the opening meant for that was poorly placed so the water infiltrated into cracks on the side.. We had a king size bedroom - our friends had a queen size one, theirs looked better. It rained heavily during our stay, it was so loud on the metal roofs during the night! Food at the restaurant was good but no choice (also for drinks), so a bit difficult for fussy people/kids who don’t want to eat local noodles and rice at every meal. The water is not clear around the resort, need to go further away for snorkeling.. We also booked a snorkeling trip with them, but not impressed either, almost nothing to see in the water… Overall quite overpriced in my opinion - if we compare with same price properties on the peninsula for example.

Where do I start? We booked for 3 nights, after approx. 10 minutes I realised it was a huge mistake and left a number of hours later. No hot water, no tv, no wi-fi, food was in edible, staff were incompetent, the walk to the room was dangerous, building work on going with non stop hammering. Just to top things off openened the so called bathroom door to see the floor covered in insects. Also on arrival no idea where to go, we asked a guy who was repairing something, dragged our cases for what seemed like miles across a totally unsafe walkway, of course no lighting at all even though this was in darkness at 9.00pm. The so called bed with two pillows was a 3 inch thick mattress similar to those provided to prison inmates.

The sunset location is beautiful.

There is no options for meal choices, just what they prepare on the night. (They did try to provide an alternative to seafood but ended up being only vegetables and lukewarm fried chips) There is no fresh juice available only orange cordial. And nothing else except water!! Tea & coffee at breakfast Some difficulty with requests and language barrier. Bed was old steel spring mattress and uncomfortable. No coffee/ tea provided in rooms. The wooden walk way feels unsafe to get to property with some broken boards. The arrival area at start of walk way is littered with garbage. And garbage floating past the bungalows. We didn’t not swim there. We asked staff to store half of a bday cake in fridge , next morning most had been eaten by them. No explanation or apology .

We had a wonderful stay at Parapat Water Village Resort. The chalet was nice and clean, and the food was delicious. The overall atmosphere was relaxing, and we truly appreciated the hospitality.

However, we were quite disappointed when we went swimming in the ocean and saw a worker washing dishes and throwing rubbish such as tissues, beer cans, and leftover food into the water. We could even see oil floating on the surface. This was very upsetting and took away from the experience. We hope the resort can address this issue, as it’s important to keep the environment clean for guests and marine life. Other than that, we enjoyed our stay and would love to return if this concern is taken seriously.
