sly hoped that I didn't understand the Indian hotel system. I knew that they had overbooked. I explained that I couldn't cancel the booking as I would be charged for a late cancellation and it wasn't my choice to cancel. I asked them to cancel my booking on booking.com. They wouldn't. I rang them, all they said was we have messaged you and hung up on me and then wouldn't answer. I took it up with booking.com. They confirmed that the hotel had indeed overbooked! They obviously have no moral values when it comes to honouring bookings. It left us in a stressful situation trying to find new accommodation whilst on the train to Ahmedabad! To make it even worse, they were still advertising availability on booking.com at a lower price! Don't trust them. Book somewhere else.
