"An excellent break, we'll try to come back and walk more in the area"

8.0

It's a great property in a lovely village Dufton is great - the Stag Pub is visible across the shady green, great food (especially the pie) and beer. No food on Monday evening but Micky’s pizza van parks outside and you can eat in the pub or the pub garden. Pub open every evening, no daytimes til the weekend. Next door to the Post Box cottage is the Post Box Pantry - an excellent cafe open 10-4 The cottage itself is great - living room with a decent flat screen tv and Netflix, dining room, small kitchen, big lawned garden Three double bedrooms, one is en suite, two share a bathroom Very clean and nicely presented The village is silent - just the odd farm vehicle coming to the cafe but not til after 10am It’s a great place to stay if you want a base in the area for a few days or a day off on the Pennine Way. Alternative accommodation in the village are limited - just a couple of small b&bs and hobbit hole type places, a camp site (reported as small but ok), and soon the former youth hostel reopening as a hotel apparently (shame). We were three 60+ blokes walking the Pennine Way, we loved our time at the Post Office Cottage and access to the Stag Pub Highly recommended

Beware though, there are no shops - the nearest shops are in Appleby which is easy by car but a (nice) 1-1.5 hour walk each way - a very pleasant small town with everything you need (although beware the Appleby Horse Sales/gathering in June - additional residents and possible issues).

"Very good"

Very comfortable sofas and beds . Well equipped kitchen although would benefit from a small freezer or at least a fridge which has a freezer compartment. Lovely location.

Rear of property not as pleasing as the rest of house.

A comfortable cottage in a pretty village, a very good pub across the road.

A freezer unit would have been useful, we stayed 2 nights and managed but if you are staying for a week a freezer is essential.

"What a perfect house to relax and spend days walking."

9.0

Excellent communication with the owner and a perfectly located house to stay for days out walking. A well equipped kitchen, fire in the living room and comfy beds made for a great return after a day out in the hills. A charming village with everyone we met being so friendly and welcoming, the pub over the road was an absolute bonus. Thank you Joe and your team hopefully we will return soon.
