Auberge de Tamezret

It was our first time staying at a cave hotel, and I was really impressed by everything! The place has such great taste, and you can really feel the owner’s sense of style in all the little details. Not only the facilities, the dinner was fantastic as well!

Since it’s a cave, small bits do occasionally fall from the ceiling, nothing serious though. For us, it adds to the feeling of being somewhere totally different and special.

The views were incredible. The rooms were extraordinarily clean and neat and meticulous. Patrick and Sabrine were so welcoming and made us feel like friends stopping into their home rather than hotel guests.

Some people might find the open bathroom concept a little surprising.

An amazing stay and a truly one-of-a-kind experience! The property is full of character—immaculately maintained with thoughtful design touches, like individual bedside light switches. The warm hospitality and exceptional meals make staying here an easy choice. We especially enjoyed dining with other guests. Despite the language barrier, we connected with the French ladies at our table, with host Patrick kindly translating. It was a delightful surprise to have such an authentic French experience in Tunisia. Writing in the guest book with ink for the first time made it even more special. Staying here is worth it for the dinner alone—the most delicious way to taste camel meat and dates!

The location is lovely, in a beautiful village near Matmata. Perfect for a stop on the way south or as a base for exploring the area. The dinner and breakfast is exceptional, and served in the owners' gorgeous cave dining room that is stuffed with local wines, olive oils, honey and more. Really, there isn't a thing to fault - the owners mentioned long careers in hospitality before they opened L'Auberge and it shows - from the way the rooms have been set up to the bedding, everything is thought through. Strongly reccomend a visit!

Some of the rooms don't have the bathroom walled off from the rest of the room - this is something we also encountered elsewhere in Tunisia and wouldn't have been an issue, but worth noting if that's an issue for you.

Fantastic property, highlight of the trip. The cave room was a wonderful place to sleep and so well designed and finished. Dinner and breakfast were exceptional with high quality food. Patrick was an attentive and friendly host, giving us lots of details about Tamezret and Tunisia in general. Would highly recommend.

Patrick and Sabrina were very helpful and loving host. The place was impeccable and one of a kind. You could only see for yourself. Words cannot express how unique this place is. The dinner and breakfast were beyond standard.

Wow! What an incredible experience. The room, dining room and entire property is a fantastic display of what a modern version of typical homes from the area look like. Patrick and Sabrine are incredible hosts - we had a plan for our stay and Patrick ran us through the absolute highlights and route we should take - and he was right. We loved our two night stay and saw a lot on our day trip. Sabrine's cooking is phenomenal and easily the best on our stay in Tunisia. Breakfast is also amazing and has a great variety too. We learned a lot about the country and history while here. We will be recommending this to everyone and will be staying again when we return to Tunisia. Thank you Patrick and Sabrine.

Exceptional

The couple was nice and friendly, unfortunately this is not enough (see what I didnt like)The room was clean , but the bathroom was not well designed. The museum in the corner is exceptional.

The food was not good, even the second night I was sick by the food. For me there's something wrong with the food conditioning.
