Montañero Hostel II

Simple room but clean with everything what you need. Everyday a bit different breakfast.

We had a window in our room so when people go in the night or early morning we woke up because of light

Great cheap place to stay near bus stop. Very friendly staff who have great hiking recommendations

We have stayed for 5 nights, the family that runs the hostel were very accommodating. the breakfasts were a nice addition

It does require a bit of a walk from the center but nothing complicated,

Clean bathroom and room. Very good value. Is not very central but not far from the center (12 min walk). Kitchen available for guests. Nice staff.

Hot water doesn’t work very well, there was not water the last day of our stay

We (backpacker couple) spent one week in Montañero ll. The staff is friendly and always ready to help you and solve any question. The room was spacious and comfortable. Big beds, clean sheets, toilet paper, towels included and warm shower. Breakfast included is from Monday to Saturday and it’s varied.

There is not seat on the toilet. There was no curtain in the shower and the bathroom was quite small so it was very easy to make everything wet.

Amazing - this hostel’s offer is above the price. The rooms are comfortable and clean, and there is a kitchen that can be used. But the most valuable experience is the kindness of the owner (and his mom), as he was prepared to give us numerable informations on the tours / transportations for the hikes they help organise, and the motivation he gave us to reach our first “nevado”. Thank you for such a pleasant stay.

Nice big room with hot shower, good communal kitchen, nice breakfast included and helpful staff. Really appreciated early check in and also a free shower when we returned from our trekking before the night bus. would stay again!

Pros of Montañero I: comfortable beds, nice breakfast of coffee and bread fried in eggs (served every day except Sunday). Very sweet woman who runs the property and is helpful and kind.

We made a reservation at Montañero II. When we arrived, we were told there were no beds available and that we would have to go to Montañero I (about 35 minute walk away, on the outskirts of the city). The host at Montañero II called us a cab and said they would cover it, but when we arrived the driver said he had not been paid and the staff at Montañero I didn't seem to know anything about it, so we paid the driver (not a big deal, but still - we would have just walked instead). We had tried to reserve a double room with private bathroom (at Montañero II) -- at Montañero I, we were charged the same price, but for two separate single rooms with shared bathrooms. Cons of Montañero I: the front door is always locked and guests are not given a key/access code, so you hear the doorbell ringing all day and night as people try to get back to their rooms.

The view of our room was beautiful. The staff friendly and very helpful. They gave us good information and helped us based on what we wanted to see in Ancash.

Due to my changing of the initial dates by one day, the price almost doubled. I understand that it was fiestas patrias and fiestas de huaraz, and during peak tourist season, but for the quality of the hotel and facilities, I think 60$ per night and an almost doubling of the price was very exorbitant and not at all worth it. (Were it not for the price, I would have been completely satisfied)
