From the very first moment you enter this wonderfully relaxing gem, you feel well taken care of and warmly welcomed. The delightful cinnamon welcome drink certainly contributed to that feeling. The hotel is nestled in the hip beach town of Hiriketiya on the southern coast of Sri Lanka, near Dickwella. The atmosphere of The Yard has a European touch, without losing its chilled, relaxed, and tropical character. Yet it is tidy and serene enough to get some work done, or to find a quiet spot for meditation or yoga. The backyard is a wonderful retreat with plenty of seating, all styled in a fantastic and carefully curated aesthetic. For lovers of a tropical, understated flair, this hotel is an absolute must. The rooms impress with their harmoniously matched natural materials, patterns, and thoughtful little design details that make the stay truly enjoyable. On our Sri Lanka trip spanning 19 hotels, this was one of our top favorites, and we would definitely return — the value for money is absolutely outstanding.

Good location and friendly staff

Our main issue was with the bathroom as the layout meant the whole bathroom floor got wet from the shower and then it didn’t dry, so essentially a wet bathroom the whole time. We felt that the photos look better than the reality, at least for the room we had. It was also quite noisy in the morning from downstairs and neighbouring properties.
