Rivers Bend Cottage

We were staying for the film festival in May, the house wasn’t too far from Schull, a pleasant 20 minute walk down a quiet road. The host lives nearby and was very warm and accommodating to us! We had a lovely, comfortable stay in the sun and enjoyed cooking in the well-equipped kitchen and relaxing in the house. Schull itself is a lovely place, with nice bars, a pier and decent shop, so it was very nice to be so close.

This is a home that looks like an old cottage but inside it is state of the art comfort. One of the nicest features is the open plan sliding door leading from the living room to a south-west facing patio that looks over a wild meadow. It is so peaceful and blessed with beautiful sunsets. A real wow moment is at night with the lights off if you step into the hall the north facing floor to ceiling window forms a picture of the night sky with Ursa major - the big bear constellation perfectly framed - its a magical sight ! It was also great to be able to walk to the local beach to swim and to pubs and restaurants in the local village.

The local public access road is very narrow - there is nothing the owners can do about this, it is a feature of rural life in Ireland but best to be ready for it if you are arriving by car.

Aileen and Jerome are very friendly hosts. Lovely, tranquil location. A short walk into town- 15-20 mins. The kitchen is very well equipped and had quite a number of staples that one wouldn’t usually expect. The bedrooms are very comfortable and two bathrooms is a gift even when the party is just two people! There is an extensive grassed area, a good sized very sunny patio with a picnic bench.

The dining area is at an island unit with high backed chairs. As we like to spend a long time at dinner we’d have preferred a regular table and chairs. However that may be indicative of our age!!!

Lovely house in a beautiful garden. Nice surroundings, very nice hosts. Clean and comfortable rooms.

Building site close by. Fortunately they worked only on 2 days of our stay.

Lovely newly renovated and extended country cottage with all mod cons. Just a 1km walk along lovely narrow lane ways to Schull. Highly recommended.

The house was like a home away from home - everything we could possibly need was available. We loved it and are planning a return stay!

Great location and all rooms very clean and well maintained. Very quiet & peaceful location only 15 mins walk to Schull village.
