Kyoto Ryokan Hirashin

Location was good. That was the only positive.

We stayed 3 nights. The property was dirty, dated and uncomfortable. Walls were stained, and there was a musty smell in the room and the hallways. The place was very overpriced for the level of amenities and service. While staff were polite they were not particularly welcoming or helpful. We laid out our futons to accommodate our family and every day they were put back to the way the hotel wanted them, which did not work for us. Why? We were only given one key for 3 adults, when we requested an additional key we were told that was not possible. We did not dare use the Onsen, given what we saw in the hotel. Nor did we eat at the hotel. The location was good and it was a nice touch to get hot water for tea in the room.

There was a great breakfast place just across the street that was really the best part of this stay. Hotel seemed old and dirty and past its prime.

Cleanliness of the rooms, communication with hotel staff - we had several emails that went unanswered before we arrived. Felt really expensive for what we got.

The location was so convenient to the Nishiki Market, Sanjo-dori and the subways

Nothing. It was perfect!
