"Lovely but it's a steep climb upstairs to the top floor!"

7.0

Excellent location - 3 minute walk to the beach. A great coffee and drinks bar (Goat Lodge) as you reach the beach. Fantastic for a morning walk to grab a coffee and bacon butty and the sea breeze before the others wake up! Nice walk to Hastings, then up the West Hill Funicular and back down again, to see the shipwrecks on the beach and a lovely walk back to St Leonards-on-Sea. Location close enough to drive to other places such as Battle, Brighton, Peacehaven etc. Very well stocked kitchen and apartment, with all kitchen appliances and staple food stuff. Good sea view, if you stretch your neck out. Plenty of local shops close by to do some shopping for self catering. Video instructions easily accessed to use the oven and hob. Hot water switch easy to use for hot water taps. Shower constantly hot. Plenty of wardrobe and drawer space in the bedrooms. Range of bins to encourage recycling.

Parking is first come first served and in May half term, it's very difficult to find a spot close by. Apartment looks as if the owners may still live there at times, but it's hard to tell, so it was hard to know whether everything could be used in the apartment (e.g. extra bedding, food stuff in the kitchen cupboards/freezer/fridge/drawers). Cafetiere doesn't work well (the filter just falls straight down into the jug). Coffee machine had no instructions so could not use. Small freezer filled with food already so could not get much more of our own food in there. Top floor (Penthouse) and can only get a good view of the sea if you climb up onto the window sill and stick your head out of the window. Also, we had a heatwave whilst we stayed there and the open windows do not provide adequate cooling - perhaps ceiling fans could be installed or floor fans could be added. Bathroom window is small and there is no extraction fan so the bathroom can steam up easily and smells linger for longer than necessary. There are a lot of steps to the apartment! But we already knew to expect this. Just a shame they weren't worth the limited sea view. Could do with one more comfy seat in the lounge area as one armchair and a two seater sofa aren't quite enough for 4 people. Instructions for what can and cannot go into the separate rubbish bins would be helpful. Loads of different books on the bookshelves. Some games (for all ages) and toys for little ones.

"A well located, clean, airy and spacious flat that is perfect for a short stay in St Leonard's."

8.0

The location is amazing - it's just 5 minutes from the main station and close to everything you need. The flat is full of light and had all the amenities we needed... the check in and communication with the hosts was great too. The bedrooms are spacious and it was nice to have little extras like the tea, coffee and shower gel. Yes the apartment is up lots of stairs but that was well documented (so it didn't really bother us).

It's not about what could have been better... but I would advise against this property if you struggle with lots of stairs or you're sensitive to light when you sleep.

"Would stay again"

8.0

- Excellent location, easy to get around with buses. - Modernised in comparison to the rest of the building. - Nice size for a family of three. - Free parking outside.

- There are a lot of steps to get to the top of the building. It's not ideal if you have lots of luggage or kids. That said, if you enjoy the challenge... - Parking is free. HOWEVER, finding a space is a lottery. Ideally, it is best to park and not move your car until departure. Use buses to get around, and a lot of things are in walking distance. - The curtains in the bedrooms are way too thin. They let in a lot of light. The sun rises on this side of the building, which in summer you can imagine is very early in the morning.

"Lovely decor, some improvements could be made"

6.0

The flat was stylishly decorated. The beds were very comfortable and the host was quick to respond to messages.

Some issues already flagged in the other reviews- the v thin curtains meant we all woke up at dawn. The lack of instructions for using the hob, cooker, coffee machine etc. made things tricky. No microwave even though the listing states there is one. Only BBC i-player. no wine bottle opener (v disappointing! 😉). No condiments like ketchup and vinegar. No milk left for us to use. If these number of small issues were addressed I would leave a really high rating, as it is it's a shame they marred the otherwise lovely flat. On the sea view- it is not direct at all.

"Really lovely place overall."

8.0

The place was beautifully decorated and very well equipped. The beds were incredibly comfortable and the host had left lots of store cupboard staples for guests to use, and there were so many lovely little touches. It did actually feel like staying in someone's home.

You could see the sea if you stood in the window and looked left... The comfortable beds unfortunately couldn't cancel out the very thin curtains in the bedrooms, so I was awake at sunrise (maybe leave some eye masks?) and all the equipment including a very fancy coffee machine was great, except we couldn't use it because there was no instructions or manual. And finally, the host is clearly a generous person and we really appreciated that so this one might not be her fault (could be the rules) but what we could have really done with a pint of milk in the fridge to make a cuppa after we'd climbed up those 7 flights of stairs with our bags!

"Location was excellent. Clean and very comfortable. Great communication with host"

9.0

Communication with the host was really good. Instructions of check in/out and collecting keys from a key safe was easy and convenient. Location was perfect being right by the sea and having lovely well kept gardens to walk through. Lots of good restaurants and cafes close by. Penthouse was clean and I liked the attention to style making it a warming and a very comfortable environment to be in.

There are quite a few stairs to get to the penthouse which was a little more challenging with having to carry my baby plus bags (but it was worth the exercise!)
