MARO garden is a stunning boutique hotel — minimalist, beautifully designed, and perfectly tucked away in the heart of the jungle near Kabalana Beach and close to the center of Ahangama. Everything is fresh, clean, and thoughtfully curated. But what truly makes this place extraordinary is Maria. She is the most lovely, warm-hearted host and owner you could ever imagine, and she genuinely elevates the entire experience. We have honestly never met anyone like her — Maria feels almost too good to be true. She creates an atmosphere that instantly feels like home, yet remains effortlessly luxurious. Adding to that feeling are the hotel’s adorable dog and cat, who completely stole our hearts and made the stay even more special and personal. The rooms are gorgeous, the jungle-surrounded common areas are absolutely breathtaking, and the pool and dining spaces are refined, elegant, and deeply relaxing. And then there’s the food — Maria’s cooking skills are simply outstanding. She makes the absolute best food we’ve ever had, with breakfasts that are nothing short of a culinary highlight: exceptional flavors, the freshest local Sri Lankan ingredients, and beautiful European presentation and standards. This was, without a doubt, the best hospitality experience we’ve ever had. We will definitely be back and recommend the place to all our loved ones! This place deserves a full 10 out of 10. For me, it did not feel like a hotel at all – it truly felt like home. Design, space, comfort, and plants come together beautifully. Everything is very tastefully curated and spotlessly clean. The bathroom is spacious and well thought out. Breakfast was excellent, varied every day, and very generous. The pool area is extremely inviting and perfect for relaxing at any time of day. But the real heart of this place is Maria. She is an exceptional host – warm, attentive, and genuinely caring. Her presence alone makes this place special. I had an amazing stay and would return without hesitation. Highly recommended.

We absolutely loved the tranquility and incredible design of this hotel. It’s set in the most stunning surroundings. A little further from the beach but that’s also its beauty and super easy to get a Tuk Tuk. The owner was so welcoming, and kind to our children. She cooked the most delicious breakfast. It was so quiet, with the sound of wildlife surrounding.

Unfortunately the air con wasn’t working properly in our room which made for a very hot and uncomfortable night.

We had an absolutely amazing time at Maro Garden in Ahangama—it’s one of those rare places that instantly feels like home.
