Casa Madera

The hostel is in a great location and we loved being in our room with the private terrace. We spend a lot of time there, cooking and hanging out. The view was gorgeous.

Based on other reviews we knew to expect a lot of noise and we can absolutely confirm that it's insanely loud at this location. The other guests were quite calm during our stay, the main sources for noise were a rooster, fighting dogs, fireworks, church services and music that were blasted through a megaphone. Nothing that the accommodation is responsible for, just something to take into account when booking. Other towns around the lake seemed a bit calmer. We were a bit disappointed by the lack of equipment in the kitchen (both private and shared) - there were no sponges for cleaning, no oil, salt or pepper for basic cooking. The shared kitchen generally seemed to be in a bad state. While we were staying there, the other travelers didn't seem very sociable.

The staff is super kind, the view from the terrace is amazing, the vibe is super nice, both the rooms and the bathrooms are very clean. I would definitely return

You do not always have the hot hot water

Amazingly affordable. Central location. Wonderful Mayan family homestay vibe. Huge well stocked kitchen. Picturesque rooftop terrace. Lots of places to hang out and get to know fellow travellers. And of course, Toby, the dog. :-)

I wish I could have stayed longer.
