The Mayfair

Lovely property and perfect for attending a wedding at Swynsford Manor. Room was perfect and clean.

When we got back the temperature in the room was 26 degrees without the radiators on in the room. I think it was the underfloor heating downstairs. The fan made no difference or having the window open so quite a hot night. It was about 12 degrees outside!

The booking said toiltettries were supplied but there were none A chair or set of drawers would have been useful No kettle in the room. Used the downstairs kitchen which we assumed was for communal use aswell as the lounge. It seemed that someone lived there but we had our own milk and teabags

It was very difficult to find, initially.. The directions on the website take you somewhere else completely. There is no signage, and locals have never heard of it. The house is beautiful, my room was clean. It was strange not having a representative on site, but he did communicate well by phone.

Very modern, comfy beds, clean, lots of space and brand new kitchen equipment

Hard to find, especially in the rain and dark. No directions provided. Lots of teething problems. No information on how to use the equipment. Took us ages to work out how to unlock the hob and put the oven on a simple setting. Needs a house book with details on how to use everything, including the WiFi! Had to text the owner (very helpful and friendly) to get that information. Also provide basic things like teabags and milk, there’s nothing. Having to trudge out in the rain to buy standard stuff like that was a pain. And hairdryers please! Expensive for the area.

The house was spacious and very modern. The house was situated perfectly and not far from the Newmarket racecourse where we were going.

The owner did not know of our booking. A strong smell was coming from the bin, and there was rubbish scattered around the house. Obviously the house was not ready for us

After arriving at the address of the room in which I had booked, we were told via ring doorbell that we would no longer be staying in the room which i had paid for due to their being a hen party (even though it states no hen/stag parties within the information) we would be staying in one of the “cottages”. Following this we were shown to a terraced house, which was nothing like what had been advertised or what I had paid for. The entrance was via a rear patio door, with no garden views. The patio doors were difficult to open/close, the house smelt of, and showed signs of damp in various areas. The towels left had dirty marks on them, the bin in the bathroom was not empty, the sofas in both areas were dirty with marks, the toaster looked as though it had never been cleaned, dirty pans in the cupboards. This then put a downer on our evening as we were disappointed that we had to stay in this place which honestly I don’t think is suitable for anyone to stay in, it was not up to any standards of cleanliness, and it looked much like a boarding house. On top of this the parking was not suitable for the amount of houses/hotels/cottages/rooms whatever you want to call it, and in some places vehicles blocked in and spaces used to store rubble from works which seemed ongoing in the attached properties. Although we appreciated having somewhere to stay, this made us feel very uncomfortable and we couldn’t wait to leave. Before we left in the morning an hour prior to our checkout time a lady opened the rear gate and came into the property shouting for the owner, just showing how these houses are not secure, and as paying guests very inappropriate. Overall this is false advertising, and expecting customers to stay in these disgusting properties is not acceptable.
