shady home is the perfect homestay - you get your own apartment above the house, which is spacious, shady and even has its own balcony - plus a lovely family below that goes out of their way to make you feel at home. they even lent me their own bicycle and always made sure i was happy and comfortable. the location is away from the hustle and bustle of the town but just a 5 minute cycle to kabalana beach or 10 minutes to Ahanghama. i loved exploring the area by bicycle. or you can rent a motorbike. either way it's a great way to get the best of both worlds. i stayed 8 nights and would definitely stay again. such great value for money too. the family also has shady cottage down the road which is set in a gorgeous garden. so that's also a great option. Just remember, you are staying above a family home, above the kitchen area, so you will hear the family prepare breakfast in the morning and dinner in the evening. it's all part of the charm!

Simple, everything worked, beautiful view from balcony, hosts were helpful, mosquito net was great.

A bin in the room, or a glass to drink from would have been good, plus somewhere to put clothes. It is very simple, but that was also charming. It was a little loud one morning from the neighbour using machinery in the garden. But overall a very special place to stay!

Super tranquil and friendly neighborhood. I had the best sleep ever. The lovely and attentive family provided delicious Sti Lankan breakfast and dinner on request, this I‘ll miss the most about this place.
