Villa Karan Canggu

The property is lovely, the room is very clean and the staff are lovely, especially Gede who is very friendly and accommodating. He gave us loads of recommendations and even went surfing with us. This was our second time here, we will definitely be back

I really liked the colour combination of the rooms and the tiling—they were pleasant and thoughtfully designed. The overall aesthetic was impressive and created a welcoming atmosphere. The staff were generally friendly and helpful throughout my stay, which I appreciated. However, my check-out experience left a bit of a sour note. When it was time to settle the bill, a male staff member accompanied the lady handling the check-out, and it felt a bit uncomfortable—as if he was there to enforce payment. When I asked why he was present, he simply said, "You check out," which felt abrupt and unnecessary, especially since I still had time left before the official check-out. That interaction could have been handled more politely.

To start off, I was quite disappointed that there was no TV in the room. I happened to fall sick upon arrival (unrelated to the villa), and with limited energy and only my phone for entertainment, it would have been nice to have some other form of stimulation. The bathroom could use some attention. The shower head seemed partially clogged, with water coming out unevenly, and the shower gel dispenser was nearly empty—I had to squeeze out the last bit during my shower. Also, one would expect that places such as these would at least have an iron and an ironing board - given that our existence is in a suitcase. Additionally, the air-conditioning appeared to be locked at 24°C, with no way to adjust it, which made it hard to get the room to a comfortable temperature, especially while feeling unwell. The check-out experience also left a poor impression. A male staff member accompanied the woman handling my check-out and told me, rather abruptly, to check out—despite the fact that I was well aware of the time and still within the check-out window. It felt unnecessary and a bit uncomfortable. One of the bigger letdowns was the expectation versus reality. From the photos, I had the impression that the villa included a private kitchen and pool. That wasn't the case—or at least, not what I expected. The shared kitchen reminded me of something you'd find in a backpackers' hostel. The pictures online were likely taken when everything was brand new, so it was a bit misleading.

The owner send me messages to kill me when I don’t pay the room to himself! He didn’t want the payment over booking. Staff is knocking at the door every morning and asking to clean or not. When not cleaned before 10 AM there will be no cleaning. Place is full of Moskitos.

Stayed in one of the rooms for 10 days and absolutely loved it. The location couldn't have been better, with easy access to the beach, a variety of restaurants/cafes, and a gym within only a 2-minute walk. The host was friendly and helpful, and the check-in process was easy. The villa's kitchen amenities were good, allowing me to prepare meals with ease, and the pool was a great addition, providing the perfect way to cool down on a hot day.

The fact you can’t actually find it. The directions weren’t helpful. The Villa didn’t seem ready like they didn’t know someone was staying. I didn’t have access to the kitchen for the first day. I couldn’t get in contact with the property owner. The check in process is as smooth as being able to find it. It was as though no one knew I had booked. As a solo traveler and a female it is key that I feel safe. To have no communication and random groups of people showing up and multiple random people coming and telling me to go home, when I booked the place. It is handled very sloppy, I would recommend only due to its location and amenities, the cleaner is lovely. But I would say stay elsewhere, where it’s easier yo find and random people aren’t arriving without any notice. A welcome message or booklet or anything to be able to acknowledge my stay would be awesome. It was a real let down, and made me feel extremely uncomfortable.

For long term stay some drawers for the clothes would have been handy.
