The Outpost

Not worth the risk

We drove 3 hours to stay here and go to Patti's Settlement. Paid in full on Booking on October 29th. The day of arrival we recieved an email with check-in information and the door code. We arrived at 3pm on the dot and the code did not work. We noticed another couple walking to the same building we were reserved at. They had booked THE SAME ROOM at 9am the SAME DAY! They tried their code and IT WORKED! Check in time is 3 pm and they have NO ONE in the office after 3pm. Meaning they leave before checkin! So after 45 minutes someone from the property finally called me back and told me my reservation was canceled on the 28th (mind u I paid in full on the 29th) all while giving me the wrong confirmation number. I kept asking her if she would check the correct confirmation number but she continued to interrupt me and would not let me speak. Needless to say there's 5 building so there were no alternative options even IF they offered, which SHE NEVER OFFERED ANYTHING AND CONTINUED SAYING I DIDNT HAVE A RESERVATION. I was looking at the booking confirmation on my phone. We were so disgusted we got in the car and headed back home while calling booking. We didn't even go to Patti's, didn't even eat, didnt get to see the first night of the christmas lights and I cried the whole way home as it was one of the first trips with no kids and we could enjoy ourselves as adults. Also we stood on the porch of this tiny house looking like idiots that didn't have a reservation and have to get in the car and leave being told we did not reserve the room.

We liked that the location was located to where you could walk to town. We liked that our rental had a hot tub.

The bed was really hard and the pillows were cheap. My husband and I didn't get any sleep the two nights we were there because of the bedding situation. The television is way too small. If you want to watch something you have to get up out of the bed to see how to find the channel you're looking for. The shower and the floors in the bathroom were dirty. The hot tub was definitely dirty because you could see fibers and dirt floating around when you turned on the lights and the jets. Many of the restaurants we were wanting to eat at were closed and the ones that were open were disappointing.

Excellent, walking distance for Patty's.

Location was great. So many things to see around the area. Don’t miss eating at Ms Patti’s. The KYState Park is so close, so beautiful and a gorgeous lake to enjoy.

The room needs another chair to sit in.

The unit we stayed in was the Post Office and was decorated very fittingly with Mail decor. We’ve been staying in the area for several years now and had desired to stay at the Outpost.

We were caught unawares, typically in cabins we stayed in the past, there were dishes, flatware etc. we rented for two nights, after returning from driving around the area and returning about noon we discovered we were locked out of our unit. Fortunately housekeeping was there acknowledged we were there for two nights and she was able to let us in. After emails from each of us and the housekeeper and a few calls, which I’ll add the ladies on the calls just didn’t seem to get the urgency that if we left we wouldn’t be able to get back in. We had reservations for dinner at 6pm (celebrating our 34th anniversary). Finally after yet another call explaining it needs to be resolved now or we would be packing up and spending the night elsewhere. We just didn’t want take a chance leaving for dinner and not being able to return to the unit. Sleeping in the car wasn’t an option. We did get word after tracking down the housekeeping, she let us know where she worked at night, that it was resolved. A text, email or phone call to let us know at the time it was resolved would have been considerate. The lady that was the housekeeper was awesome. She certainly went above and beyond to help us.

It was exactly as described, very cute, the T. Lawson grill was where we ate supper the first night and was delicious. We ate at Patty’s the next day for lunch and was amazing.

Walking distance from most things. You could rent a golf cart if you wanted or drive. The bed was comfortable, and I loved the hot tub and the set down space available outside. We enjoyed the drive to go see the bison and elk and the short walks around the town.

Wish there was a table and chair available inside but still one of our favorite spots to visit.
