"Sconsiglio"

1.0

Giardino e basta

"Good value, True glimpse of Neapolitan life and great base for exploring with kids."

8.0

There was lots of space and the room and grounds was more than big enough for two adults and two kids. The pull out bed was proper mattresses and more than a king size and that was a huge bonus meaning the kids could have the bedroom and we took the room with the balcony for time to ourselves in the evening. The owners Luca and Claudia were really kind. It was perfectly located to reach Pompeii and Sorrento by train but we were very glad we booked a transfer from Naples and back as it would have been difficult to find without a car. It was about 20 minutes downhill walk to beach and train station which was perfect for us-we like to explore on foot. However, other people probably would want a car! The neighbourhood was like stepping back into Naples thirty years ago. Some unforgettable sights and a sense you're really getting an insight into what real life is like in the region. But if you're looking for the glamour of Sorrento this isn't like that. Don't miss the secret late night donut shop Pupetta round the corner which seems to supply the whole of Naples and had a huge queue. We came across the queue by accident at around 11pm and the fresh donuts really were incredible. Also the hotel Europa down the road does a good negroni and tasty aperitif and is about three minutes walk. We came to embrace the rustic charm. The house is attached to a working farm and the kids enjoyed meeting the horses and pig-although there were times of smells and sounds you'd associate with a farm! As I say this is a glimpse of real Italian life and if you embrace it you can find real joy in the experience, from buying fresh mozzarella's from a Nonna in her shop that is almost falling apart at the bottom of the hill, to the kids letting off fireworks to celebrate holidays and sudden discoveries of magnificent but often faded majestic villas. Like no where we've ever been before.

We'd really recommend an information pack for guests about what is going on in the area. Info like when shops close for public holidays would be useful as on our first day everything closed and we had no idea why.! Thank goodness for Uber Eats, and the nearby hotel bar but make sure you get the correct address for delivery from Claudia!
