"Loved the traditional vibes and heated floors, convenient location; need better directions and trash bins"

9.0

Heated floors were amazing! Bathtub can heat automatically. Appreciated the toaster oven, washing machine with dryer function, toilet with bidet, fridge, stove, electric kettle, dishes, utensils, cooking utensils, umbrellas, slippers, toothbrushes, razors, hair brushes, and plenty of towels. Convenient location, very close to grocery store, convenience stores, bus stop and subway. Only a ten minute bus ride to Gion. Very quiet neighborhood, despite being near a main road. Good WiFi. Western beds were comfy. Loved the tatami on the main floor. Heaters worked well.

Kitchen had only a very tiny trash can. We were told to separate trash from recycling, but there were no bins or trash bags to do this. Only two futon. Tatami room upstairs was very small, only big enough for one person. Quite chilly. Not the most scenic neighborhood. Registration office told us the best way to get to the property would be by taxi rather than by bus, but they didn’t tell us how or where we should catch one. So we waited outside the office trying to hail a taxi on both side of the street for about 20 minutes before we decided to walk back to Kyoto Station to try to catch a taxi there. There is a taxi stand on the north side of Kyoto Station where you can get in line to catch a taxi. There is a separate area where taxis drop off customers at Kyoto Station…that is not the spot to try to get a taxi. Would be nice if the office could tell customers to go back to the station to catch a taxi.

"Beautiful stay in a cute traditional house"

9.0

The house atmosphere/ traditionele style. The localisation was great we could walk to Gion the evening. We loved the baggage delivery from checking office to the house which was very convenient.

The map of the house shows 2 bedrooms upstairs (a 2 persons western style a a Japanese style one). You need to be aware the the Japanese room upstairs is actually too small for the futons and if you are 4. 2 persons sleeps in western room upstairs and 2 person downstairs in the leaving japanese style room. Which is a bit less convenient with the table... This was a bit disappointing but we still had a great stay.

"Great traditional house stay in Kyoto."

9.0

We had a great 5 day stay and experience in this Japanese traditional house. Very quiet area and yet walking distance to a lot of interest places. And if not then buses and metro close by. Kitchen and washing machine was very useful. Everything was super great maintained.

Check in is close to train station and then 15 minutes' drive required. Well, it is not so bad, just unusual, so need to pay attention. Then, tall people need to bend to pass through some of the doors. Need to get used to it.

"Think twice!"

5.0

Nothing.

Very compact place-no view no garden or open area, dirty neighborhood. It was expected to be a beautiful place but was far away from the expectations, more over was very very overpriced.

"Decent and spacious machiya perfect for a family."

8.0

A spacious machiya and great to experience tatamis. It's great to have Western-style beds although instead of 1 queen bed, there were 2 double beds. We were very comfortable to move around as there's plenty of space. Bathroom was good and also has a washing machine which was helpful for us (we had been travelling for a while). Having said that, there is a nearby laundry as well.

Steps were a bit steep to go up to the bedroom - we kept our suitcases downstairs but it's such a minor thing since the bathrooms were downstairs.
