Lucky house

It is a 30 minute drive to Auckland Airport

We were only told the night before our arrival that payment was by cash (as we are from the UK we couldn't do a bank transfer) Nearing the end of our trip we had been using up the remaining notes we had brought with us, so then had to make ATM withdrawals which incur a charge. Please tell guests earlier so they can plan. It was only when we got into the property that we saw a note on the oven saying that it was broken and must not be used. Luckily the dinner we had planned to prepare could be cooked in the microwave, but it would have been easier if the host had mentioned the broken oven in her messages. The property needs some attention. Window frames are stained and need a really good clean, the film on some of the windows is peeling off and looks a mess, and there is mould on the bathroom sink and shower cubicles. The property is full of the owners' personal belongings, including shoes, toiletries, used bar of soap, etc, so it feels a bit strange with so much stuff everywhere. If you are going to put a cover over the toaster, at least make sure it's a clean one! The owner says we expect too much for the price, but on this (our 4th visit) we travelled the whole of NZ for 7 weeks, staying in over 20 different properties, so we are very familiar with the standard of properties in your wonderful country. We selected each of them because of the high 9s or 10 review scores and all of them except Lucky House were beautifully clean, extremely well equipped and absolutely immaculate. All of them were about the same price, some cheaper, and many of them were older properties. (we ourselves live in a 1930s house so know only too well the problems of maintenance!) Our review is aimed at being helpful for prospective guests. Even if some areas of the property are difficult to clean because of its age this should be reflected in the score given. Film hanging off windows, mould and limescale on shower cubicles (shown in photos) can all be rectified.

Spacious, comfortable and clean. We loved the outdoor and garden - beautiful space for family and very peaceful. The home was well equipped and owner even left food for us in the fridge. Great location, quiet street and highly recommend. We would definately book here again.

The deck camera kind of made it feel like your being watched and i didnt like that so id switch it off ( lol sorry), i would recommend moving it to cover the back steps so when your out on the deck or sitting in lounge watching movie you dont get that feeling of being watched, but awesome stay and i would recommend

My wife and I are a recently retired European couple. We stayed at Betty's place in Sunnyhills for over 3 weeks in Nov/Dec 2023 and appreciated it very much. Betty and her husband live a short car ride away. They passed by occasionally to attend to the garden, flowers and to feed the fish in the outdoor pond. Betty was very friendly. She even left us an arrival gift of some fresh fruit and sweets. The house was clean. It is very fully furnished, with much of their stuff (souvenirs, decorations) still around. There is a nice, covered, outdoor decking area and a completely private corner to the back lawn, despite the proximity of other houses. There is a washing machine that we used extensively. Laundry dries very quickly outdoors in Auckland yet some of the clothes lines were even under a shelter in case of occasional rain showers. The main door has an electronic lock with a PIN code for getting in, which we found to be very handy. In other houses we have had to share one key between my wife and myself and this has sometimes turned out to be quite awkward. There is off street parking for at least 2 cars. Nevertheless, the house is also convenient for the AT bus routes and services are frequent. We would very happily stay there again in the future. Thank you Betty!

A delightful place with a.beautiful covered deck which was so relaxing. Exceptionally well equipped. Stayed due to a flight cancellation. 45 mins and $30 uber ride to airport. So a lucky house for us. I think access to attractions would be easy by car.

Really great hospitality. clean and tidy place. House loooks really fabulous with the art which they did by themselves. I will recommend for everyone who wanna have peaceful and wonderful stay.
