Nyamankulu Guest Lodge

I'm a bit confused by the high score of this place. I'll start with the good. The facility itself is well manicured, clean, modern and well staffed. The beds are actually quite comfortable, the shower was warm and we felt safe in our room. The staff were also friendly. Nothing against them. The breakfast in the morning was decent with two eggs, a sausage, some (cold) beans, two chicken nuggets for some reason and two slices of back bacon. Some juice too.

To begin, the road from Orpen gate to this accommodation is probably the worst road I have driven in South Africa. It is both unpaved and massively rutted with big drops and gaps that are difficult for a small car to navigate. It also travels through some pretty sketchy areas and a few people pointed at us as we drove by for some reason. Driving this stretch getting close to the evening after a day in Kruger is pretty harrowing. I would leave plenty of time so you are driving it in full daylight. Back to the accommodation, it was equally in a fairly sketchy feeling area. While we felt safe in the hotel grounds, while the gate was left open, a group of people walked up to the entrance and stared at us. No issues but a bit unnerving. The hotel itself has music blasting, which if that's what you're looking for, perhaps it's fine, but it was quite loud. It did stop around 9 though as it started to rain heavily. The room was mostly clean but had a few missed spots with some splotchy dark stains on the sheets, a collapsed tv stand with the drawer stuck hanging open and a few other small cosmetic things. Overall, our stay here was fine. We really had no major issues and we were treated well, but the location is likely the biggest detractor and I would consider staying somewhere more along the major tarred roads rather than going down this road again.

The staff was amazing Phumi specifically was amazing and after a long day on the road she really made us all feel so welcomed . The rooms are amazing and modern and breakfast very well done accommodating our personal dietary requirements and requests . Worth every cent as there is also so many staff to assist with anything

Getting to the location was abit of a mission as the roads from Acornhoek is very poor with potholes constantly for 10km and you needing to drive on the side of the road but that is being worked on and no fault to the accommodation

It have all the amenities needed to make a stay favourably. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast awesome, proper well taken off. If around the area definitely a place to book again. Loved everything about it. All I can say is they must keep it up and maintain the standard.
