Castrum Traditional Sunset Suites

What a remarkable place to stay. The room seemed embedded into the hillside like it was part of the castle. Just super cool and very unique. You can see the property from the ferry ride in, and this highlights that it is the best view on the island. Every night was spent watching the sunset from the terrace on the property. This was great because Plaka is packed every night with sunset watchers, so we just grabbed a takeaway Aperol Spritz and retreated to our terrace where it was quiet, serene, and pure. Then down to Plaka for a post-sunset dinner. The property managers/owners were very attentive and available. Castrum is just such a unique place that it was a highlight of our trip. We rented a car and were able to park in the free city parking a few blocks away. It is about a five-minute walk up about 60 stairs from the hill from Plaka so it is useful to take time for this and consider this with regard to luggage. But that is part of the point in getting to a spot with a view and a location like this. We made breakfast in the room 3 of the 4 days that we were there and this was a lovely way to start the day as the island was waking up.

Important to be aware of carrying luggage up and down the stairs to the property as well as getting good parking when checking in and leaving so as to facilitate luggage transport.

I loved the old vibe of the place! Everything was perfect from us arriving and the property manager guiding us to the house and offered if we needed help for our bags to be carried to the hotel, to the cleanliness of the room towels for the beach the staff and don’t want to forget the view the best view in Milos by far! I had the room where you had to get out in order to get to the bathroom such unique experience! Overall perfect stay 10/10 stars! Would recommend and would be back if i ever come back to Milos! We absolutely loved our stay at Castrum Sunset suites. We stayed in the Deluxe Double Room with Sea View, and it did have such an amazing view of the sunset over the ocean. The room was very spacious and had a kitchenette for us to make our breakfast in the morning and enjoy the view. There was daily housekeeping, which exceeded our expectations and was very thorough and attentive. The host, Ania, was also very good with responding to any questions or requests we had during our stay. There is a steep walk up to the building with slippery steps, however we expected this upon booking, and the steps are certainly worth it for the view. Ania did arrange for our bags to be carried up and down the hill upon check in and check out, which was a great help. Highly recommend staying at Castrum! It is an experience we will remember forever.

Best view in Plaka! The staff were very friendly and the bed was super comfortable. The housekeeping service was great and the unit offered enough to cook/drink in the unit. The furnishing and interior feels like an antique castle but the bathroom is upgraded with modern finishes so it provided the best of the both worlds. Water pressure was very strong and easily washed off any beach sands.

I didnt mind the reviews about the stairs as I am very active. However i found that it was less about the amount of the stairs as the stairs up to the castle were very rocky and slippery. Ive seen people trip and fall and I fell myself. The stairs leading up to the unit was very steep as well and almost ladder-like. The windows did shatter on windy nights which to my surprise i still slept through all of it. Regardless of these obstacles, I really enjoyed my stay and was sad to leave.

The bed was hard to get to, especially if you needed the toilet in the night.

This place is truly amazing. It is not like anywhere we have ever stayed before, so is a real experience. The room is up steep wooden steps and through a trap door and very much feels like you are in a castle. The furniture fits perfectly with this, with a four poster bed and old chests. The views are absolutely stunning from the room windows and balcony. There is also a shared terrace outside with some loungers where you can sit out. The sunsets were amazing. I have rated this 9/10 because it was such a great experience - my wife absolutely loved it. However there are some things to be aware of, mainly that you cannot access this by road. The last part you have to walk up a steep winding path. This is paved, but is hard work with your luggage. Note: They did offer to help us with our luggage. You can easily walk back down into the Plaka where there are loads of bars/restaurants/shops dotted along the classic Greek narrow streets. You can also walk further up to the church at the top of the hill which gives views out to the other side of the island. It is not a modern new hotel - so has some quirks, but in our opinion these were well worth it for the experience. We found it a wonderful place to stay for a couple of nights.

As mentioned you need to be aware that you need to walk up a steep path to get to the suites, so pack light. Car parking in the Plaka village was often full, so I had to park in the big car park further down the hill. The sound proofing from the bathroom is not good.

Location was beautiful. If you are a lover of sunsets then this property is a must. The sunsets were magical and so breathtaking to view from the property. Tourists come to the church located adjacent to the property to view the sunsets but having the privacy to enjoy was wonderful. Additionally when you leave the property the village of Plaka is so charming and inviting to explore. The local shop and taverna owners and workers are so welcoming and friendly. The neighborhood is so safe and fun to wander in.

To access the charming and beautifully appointed property does require you to climb a lot of steps made out of rocks and stone. We managed and did this at least twice a day but it is a challenge. Frank made sure to arrange someone to bring our luggage to and from the property so we didn’t have to navigate suitcases while climbing the steps. Also the parking in Plaka is somewhat challenging however Frank also helped us to access parking

The sunset here is breathtaking and pictures don’t do it justice! We had the deluxe suite that had a balcony facing the sunset which we would highly recommend. Our favourite part was sitting there morning and evening. So relaxing and the surrounding area was quiet at night. The room itself is spacious and decorated nicely and very clean. The staff were very helpful and kind. There is no reception desk but Ania was very responsive over the phone.

Lots of stairs getting to Catsrum and they are steep in some spots. That being said, it is manageable and SO worth it once you get to there. The staff offered to take our bags up which is a helpful option. The distance is not far, just incline due to the hill the hotel is on. My husband and I are in average shape and it was no problem for us, but something to be aware of.
