"Very disappointing stay – rude staff, unfair extra charges"

1.0

Good location.

I arrived at Happy House after a long day of travelling, hoping to finally get some rest. Upon arrival, the door was locked and I had to call a mobile number. Nobody answered, but a man appeared a few seconds later. Instead of greeting me, he immediately shouted, “Name and reservation!” – very rude and unwelcoming. He then told me I had to pay a “late check-in fee.” I knew there might be a supplement, as mentioned on Booking.com, but no amount was specified. I arrived at 8 p.m. – hardly late – yet he demanded an extra €30, almost as much as the room itself! He refused to take a credit card and insisted that I either go to an ATM for Moldovan cash or pay in euros at a very bad exchange rate. I ended up paying around €50 more than the original booking price. Outrageous. The room itself was disappointing: small, with only one harsh ceiling light and no bedside lamp. The bathroom light didn’t work. The window faced a common walkway used by other guests, so I had to keep the blinds closed all the time for privacy. A family with small children in the next room left their stroller in front of my door, blocking it halfway, and there were also construction materials lying in the passage. I never felt welcome – the owner was extremely rude and the whole experience felt dishonest. To make things worse, the accommodation cancelled my booking afterward so I couldn’t post a review at the time. Only now, weeks later, did I finally get the chance to warn other travellers: avoid this place.
