Clifftop Exclusive Safari Hideaway

Let`s start with the reserve. Welgevonden is a piece of paradise. Hills, mountains, rivers, plains. From most viewing points you don`t see any signs of civilization. Very clean air, no light pollution, no poaching. The animals are relaxed, rhinos still have a horn, elephants are happily plunging in rivers. Relax and enjoy. The lodge: Fantastic views, very nice public spaces (bar, viewing points, pool...) and spacious, clean and lovely suites. Outstanding however, was the performance of kitchen and service ! We have been to many lodges (also very expensive ones) and the service staff and quality of food was nowwhere as good as at Cifftop lodge. Skilled, competent, friendly, laughing a lot. The dishes were great. I had my best gnocchis (homemade of course) ever. There is always something new to discover on the menu, for example very interesting and tasty combinations with biltong. Each evening you were seated a different table with different views and ambiente. Together with the quality of food and service, dinner always was a highlight of the day (beside the gamedrives of course) and always made you curious of what to expect (but no disappointments at all,of course). And the coffee (high end portafilter coffee machine) was the best in a lodge ever, and................you won`t believe it.... there is two types of draught beer !!! Clifftop offers otstanding value for money! Thanks to everyone and please keep this standard

The setting of the lodge is breathtaking. It was a lovely experience for my wife and I. Our room was overlooking two waterfalls and the sounds were soothing and relaxing. The food was amazing and we were happy with the portions. Our guide was knowledgeable and made our game drives engaging and exciting. An overall good experience and will definitely come back.

Die Lodge liegt im Welgevonden Game Reserve. Zufahrt vom East Gate. Der Transfer erfolgt vom Main Gate über die Teerstrasse zum East Gate. Safari Fahrzeuge sind komplett offen, bei Regen absolut kein Vergnügen. Waren total nass, auch unser Gepäck war durchnässt. Lodge ist von 3 Bächen mit Brücken umgeben. Bei Regenfällen können diese 3 Brücken unpassierbar sein, man steckt also fest. Bei uns waren 2 Brücken nicht passierbar, die Gamedrives also nur zwischen Lodge und East Gate möglich, wirklich langweilig und monoton. Unser Guide meinte, dass auch die letzte Brücke (Ausfahrt) bei den herrschenden Regenfällen bald umpassierbar sei. Wir wollten nicht in der Lodge festsitzen, da wir einen Langstreckenflug ab Johannesburg hatten. Wir haben uns daher entschlossen einen Tag früher abzureisen. Kein Entgegenkommen oder Verständnis vom Management, sehr enttäuschend. Leider ist der Service auch recht unpersönlich. Vielleicht sind die Game Drives in der Trockenzeit super, bei uns mit den upassierbaren Brücken aber absolut nicht lohnenswert. Das Preis Leistungsverhältnis stimmt absolut nicht.
