PROS: -Very quick service, no matter what our request was! - Beautiful room - Huge and comfy bed -AC! - 1 min walk from huge beach with friendly dogs and cats and stunning sunsets - Big waves (amazing to watch, but be careful if swimming) - Private pool (we loved the lights in the pool at night) - Best restaurant in the area! Delicious food for vegans and non-vegans. They can change the items a bit to make them vegan. -Airport transfer to and from Managua was $100 USD each way. SERVICE: Service was quick! We would message on WhatsApp for more water, shampoo, garbage bag or anything we needed and someone would quickly come. FOOD: The food here is amazing! Delicious vegan options (or food that can be altered vegan), such as tacos, hummus sandwhich and smoothies. The whole fried fish, lobster and salmon in the teriyaki bowl were good. Everything was so flavourful and fresh. Best restaurant in the area for sure! We loved eating our breakfast by the pool each morning. BEACH: Only 1-2 min walk from Mahalo. Huge beach. A lot of friendly dogs will be on the beach and might play with you! Beautiful sunsets. Be careful when swimming as the waves and current are very strong at all times. When you’re on the beach and turn to the right a great pizza place (Viento Este Pizza) will be just 5 mins away that’s open a few nights a week. TOWN: If you come out from Mahalo on the street and turn right, there’s a bunch of restaurants and shops 10 mins walk away. I recommend trying the falafel burger at Dutchy’s Deli! OVERALL Would stay here again if the ant situation is improved.

AREAS FOR IMPROVEMENT: - Room needs a safe, fan, lamp, closet or extra hooks to hang clothes - Only 1 small packet of 2-1 shampoo and conditioner (we had to ask for more) -A post of the bathroom door missing, also the door is not soundproof at all, so some may be bothered by that. -Bed should have 2 more pillows and the option of a thicker blanket would be nice ANT PROBLEM: I would have given this hotel 5 stars (despite the above improvements that could be made), however we had a very bad experience with ants in our room. When we arrived we saw a few little ants in the room, not a big deal. We lived in Nicaragua for years and we know they’re everywhere. Our second day, who I assume is the manager came to our room saying we complained about ants - we didn’t. Even though there were some ants I wasn’t going to complain. I assume someone else in the hotel complained and they were coming to our room also to make sure there wasn’t any problem. They cleaned with a vacuum and changed the sheets. All seemed fine. That night I felt I didn’t sleep very well and like something was touching me. I woke up to find at least 15-20 ants crawling all over me and on the bed! Immediately I texted the owner who came very quickly again with the manager. There were at least 50 ants under the mattress and around the bed and on the floor! The photo shows a few ants left after already clearing most of them. The owner said he saw there was something like a piece of bread behind the mattress and probably they were attracted to that. We felt the lady manger tried to blame us for it, saying that we brought food inside. We never ate any bread or anything like it. We said we always ate our breakfast outside by the pool. The owner was very nice about it and apologized; he also sealed a hole in the stairs inside the room. They cleaned again and the next day thankfully there was no problem.

I just returned from a 5 day stay at Mahalo and I’m so grateful. I needed to unplug and unwind and Mahalo did just that! I would wake every morning and enjoy a delicious breakfast (which was included) a walk on the beach with my dog (yes they let you have dogs!) and and come back for a delicious swim in my own private pool. The food was delicious and the staff was just lovely. Coco and Jean were so kind and made sure I had everything I needed. I will comeback again and again as it’s an hour from where I live and the perfect place for a staycation! Until next time.. gracias!

Loved the friendly folks running the place, from the manager Karina and her staff to the owners. Beautiful plunge pool and outdoor shower, tastefully decorated space. Restaurant on site was perfect for any meal or drinks throughout the day.

A window that opened, on the opposite side of the sliding door, or a ceiling fan, would have helped air circulation a lot, and lessened the need to run the expensive AC all day long.

Maybe would be nice if there would be a possibility to rent out beach chairs or something like that.

The facilities and grounds are beautiful: everything is clean, purposeful and very well maintained. The rooms are spacious and nicely decorated, not to mention immaculate . The bed was comfortable and the towels are very soft! It was very convenient having a huge water jug in the room. This was our only room with AC during our trip which was glorious. The plunge pool is lovely and meticulously cleaned daily. The restaurant is a nice space... Though not sure about the 3 days of endless disco beats playing haha. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There was also the cutest little cat ever that came to dinner. It was very wobbly and we wanted to take it to the vet ( and also home with us) but it never resurfaced. Hopefully somebody else helped it out! But we will watch for photos of it.

I can't say there is anything we didn't like but there are some areas that could be improved upon or just to be aware of. The little plunge pools do afford a little more privacy, which is lovely. However, they are open on one side ( atleast in the king suites)so if you were hoping to naked plunge or sunbathe think again haha. We never saw any availability for the bigger suites or villas but would have definitely opted for one of those! The private pools also mean that if you arrive early or want to hang out after checkout there is nowhere to lounge or wait. We happened to arrive early and were headed to the airport at the end of our stay and it would have been nice to stay a little longer. The breakfasts are good, but offering some additional sides would be great to balance them. Being able to add a fruit bowl to the egg options for example. We weren't at all impressed with the quality of the lunch and dinner options ( especially for the price) and ended up more often at kooks for lunch and La perla (excellent local food) for dinner.
