Villa Whispering Shells

Anil was a fabulous host- very helpful and attentive at all times. His cooking was lovely. Prithi ( spelt right?) was always on hand with his tuk tuk! The room was clean and spacious with a lovely sunny balcony. 5 minute walk from shops and restaurants. Although there was no beach to speak of, Anil supplied sun beds in the lovely garden , and brought us complimentary bananas and water melon! A lovely introduction to Sri Lanka - thank you Anil you were brilliant!

This place is really an oasis of tranquility! We left this place rested and refreshed 🌞 ready for new adventures! The place itself is everything we needed, perfectly clean, calm, very spacious and also the view from the window on the sea was a dream, we watched an amazing sunset and the garden is perfect to chill! More importantly we would like to thank the sweet people that took care of us during our short stay, we are very grateful for your welcoming and for the kindness! We would come again for sure!!

The staff Dewasiri was a very humble person and the services was excellent

Lovely, fuss free bungalow with exceptional service. The manager of the location, Mr. Devasri was extremely hospitable and went out of the way to ensure I had a lovely stay. The room and bathroom was very clean with basic amenities. The owners of the villa are clearly not after money, because the rooms are so very reasonably priced unlike most other hotels and guest houses nearby. Unfortunately not all rooms are air conditioned, however when I stayed in December the room with the ceiling fan worked well and the room was not humid at all and the sea breeze was lovely. They also offer food for a nominal fee. The room doesn't come with a tea/coffee maker but a cup of freshly brewed coffee or tea is priced just at LKR 150, which is very cheap. The bench in the garden is a bonus as you can sit during the day and enjoy the waves and sunset. This is definitely a place I'd like to return.

I arrived for a one-night stay in the middle of a crazy storm, with heavy rain, high winds and huge waves, which raged all night. There wasn't much to do except stay inside and watch, but perversely I quite enjoyed it. My room had a sea view...and if it were any closer to the water, I'd have been swimming. It would have been an incredible location in good weather. The building is a little shabby around the edges but the room was clean and the bed very comfortable. Good shower with lots of hot water and large towels. Kind, helpful host who was there to attend to my every need - tea, a personal router for the WiFi, a good dinner at a decent price. Good value, simple, quiet place not far from the station (Kalutara north) and just 200lkr tuk tuk ride from Kalutara south.

The area outside the villa is a bit run down with lots of rubbish. I didn't come across any eating places on my short, wet walk but there might have been some I didn't see. Immediately in front of the hotel the shoreline is just big boulders. To get in, you'd need to walk a little to a very narrow strip of sand. But it's a quiet area, not many tourists about, and has a genuine local feel.
