Opera Apartments Almaty

Our flat was on the first floor of an older building. The size of the flat was huge, with a bedroom, a living room, a kitchen and a small bathroom with toilet. The location of the flat is great, you have plenty of shops (including a big 24/7 grocery store) restaurants nearby. Our flat was above the fountains and it was very calming to listen to the sound of the water. The flat has working air conditioning and despite some previous criticisms from other guests, the sofa was super comfortable. In the flat you find all you need: water kettle, coffee machine, stove, washing machine, iron and iron board, etc. Check in was automatic and the payment could be easily carried out on the spot.

Some remarks: there is no elevator in the building, it must be definitely taken into consideration in case one travels with heavy luggages and/or has health issues. There were a lot of small and smelly bugs which entered in mass into the flat because of the non-perfect isolation of the windows. Our flat was above an event hall, which was extremely noisy during the day and in the early evening hours. After 9 pm, the loud music and the noise finished but until that it was quite unpleasant.

Очень удачное месторасположение, все рядом, недалеко большой супермаркет. Кодовый замок, что очень удобно, не нужно носить с собой ключи. Есть все необходимое, тапочки, полотенца, зубные щетки, очень чисто. Очень понравилось!

(Repeating this review as the first version shows we stayed one night. We actually stayed 11 nights). 11 out of 10 for location: in the most attractive part of central Almaty. Our balcony overlooked the Nedel’ka (Days of the Week) fountain and the beautiful green park surrounding it. After a long day working (in my case) or walking round the city, we could relax with the French windows open and eat fruit sorbet from the superb ice cream café downstairs. It is ideally quiet but a 10-minute park walk to Abay etc. The kitchenette has four gas rings as well as a microwave, coffee maker and kettle and a huge fridge (useful for storing produce from the tremendous Green Bazaar). The bathroom has high-quality fittings. The bedroom is more compact but doesn’t feel cramped because of the high ceilings — this is a classic elite mid-20th century building, sympathetically converted. Definitely one of the best short-let apartments we have ever rented. The manager, Alibek, will make contact by WhatsApp to tell you how to access the flat and promptly responds to messages as needed. (PS also appreciated the thoughtful response to my comments and glad to hear more local touches are planned.)

We liked almost everything! The hot water is very slow to come through in the early mornings, but it was very hot outside when we were there, so not an issue. There are some nice black-and-white drawings of local interest on the walls and it would have been great to have something Kazakhstani on the walls rather than the large and ugly painting of Paris in improbable pink, too!
