Very nice and comfortable traditional hotel with nice view

The view is exceptional and the neighbourhood is peaceful. But most important of all, the hotel owner is super friendly. After meeting him for the first time, Terence gave me a full itinery for a day trip in Nara and even shared with me for hours on ends about the history of Japanese temple architecture.

If you missed the last cable car for Hozanji station, be prepared to hike a mountain to get back to your hotel

Nice hilltop view overlooking Ikoma and Nara Valley. Clean place. The place seems to have been renovated recently.

The onsen is not there. I read a review saying it was currently being renovated 6 months before our stay. When we were there, nothing was done. It seems that they tried to lure visitors with non-existent onsen. I used my mobile wifi to do Zoom calls because the Internet was so slow. Albeit the renovation, they need to update the bathroom fixtures as it was kinda old.

The Japanese-style room had a great view from Mt. Ikoma. The location is ideal: close to the Hōzanji temple and several restaurants and cafés including a great Indonesian restaurant Maharajaya the hotel seems to be collaborating with. The hotel looks slightly old, but everything is clean, and toilets seem to have been recently renovated. There's an electric kettle, cups, single-use coffee drip bags etc. – as you would expect in Japan.

Having a large comon bath would be nice. It is out order (lack of funds for rennovation?).

Friendly staff, beautiful location, nice rooms

Rooms were clean, totally sufficient space for our family of three. Breakfast was beautifully presented and tasty with excellent coffee that was sustainably sourced. Terence the proprietor was very helpful, friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the local sights especially the temple. He speaks excellent English, mandarin and Japanese. The hotel itself is a well preserved 80’s type vintage with some nice new upgrades. The cable car rides were charming. Ikoma itself is quite centrally located and a convenient home base.

Unfortunately there seem to be no publicly accessible baths anywhere nearby. Most businesses seem to have been closed and there was not much else to do in the immediate area. Likely is more lively in peak season.
