Bethesda Mountain Lodge

The cottage was absolutely stunning, with most beautiful finishes. The entire setup feels just like a story book, and exceeded all expectations

The place is beautiful. Our host was super attentive. My siblings and i enjoyed the stay.

It is a beautiful little place in a very nice spot surrounded by nature. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

The only part of the stay that we did not like, was that there were no curtains.

Everything about this place is incredible. The perfect escape into the bush. The cottage is even nicer than the photos which is seldomly true. It is all so nicely put together with so many small details. Really clean and neat. Incredible hiking trails.

The venue is good. But not for business travelers.

Not the best experience. Overpriced especially if you have to pay to stay warm and no cleaning service.... We paid an extra R350 per night for a gas heater, which was a total rip-off. It wasn't even a full 9kg gas heater, and we didn't use it for the whole night. It would've been better to have an electric blanket or a more reliable heating system. The room wasn't serviced properly, and the firewood provided was insufficient, even after we requested more. We wanted to have a braai and a side fire to warm up, but the firewood was too little. The shower water was lukewarm at best, and considering it's a gas shower, we expected hot water, especially given the cold weather. For the price we're paying, it would be better to factor in proper heating and amenities rather than nickel-and-diming us for basics like warmth and hot water. A price increase might be more palatable than paying extra for essentials.

There are so many things I like, I don't know where to start. The location itself is an escape into a rustic fairy tale, especially the hiking trial which felt very Studio Ghibli-esque at times. Furthermore, the cottage is absolutely GORGEOUS! Another favourite was the swing. I spent many hours there reading, enjoying the view, or watching the fire burn, which I was able to successfully make myself after a staff member taught me. In addition, IT'S PET FRIENDLY! I can't explain how much it meant to me to have my fur baby with me on vacation. It certainly made the hiking trails even more fun! Mostly, it was like stepping into another world, which is exactly what we wanted.

Unfortunately, it was sometimes difficult to contact the owner on the phone (which is the only way to reach her). At times we received an immediate reply, while at others we only received an answer later/the next day. This was problematic to us as three women alone in the cottage. One night a bat flew into the cottage, I thought it rather added to the whimsy, but my aunt and mom were terrified. We messaged asking for help, but only received a reply after the bat had made its way into a crevice in the wall. While a bat is hardly the biggest concern in the world, especially considering our location, it troubles me nonetheless. What if a big emergency had occurred and we didn't get a timely reply/help?

Pristinely clean , superbly maintained cottage full of character in design and very well thought out. Everything one needs for a comfortable stay is in the cottage. The location is just perfect if you are looking for peace and tranquility. Highly recommended. We will definitely go back again.
