1. The extra blankets and throw cushions were dirty, and the carpets appeared old and unclean. The clothing cabinet was stained and dirty, making it unusable. 2. The access road to the property is a dirt road in very poor condition, making it difficult to navigate with a normal vehicle. Directions to the lodge at night were also challenging due to limited lighting and unclear signage. 3. Upon arrival at reception, we were informed that we had been “upgraded.” The employee had to get into our vehicle to guide us to the room because of the poor road conditions. At the first room, there were empty beer bottles left outside on the table from previous guests. The room only had a shower, despite us specifically booking a room advertised with both a corner bath and shower, as well as additional stagger beds. Since we had been camping for a week, having a bath was important to us. After I raised the issue, we were told we would be upgraded again, although we were warned that the next room would be noisy. The employee then took us to another room but did not have the keys available. This room was located next to guests having a loud braai and party. While this room did include a bath, it was still not the corner bath as advertised in the booking. Being tired after a long trip, we accepted the room. 4. To access the WiFi, guests were required to register using personal details, which did not feel secure. As a result, we chose not to use the WiFi service. 5. The party next door was extremely loud, with music and noise preventing us from enjoying an early evening rest. Around 10:15 pm, I sent a message to reception, and fortunately the music was stopped shortly afterwards and the guests became quieter. 6. Overall, the lodge gives the impression of being neglected. The staff appeared to be trying their best, but unfortunately the property no longer reflects the standard and atmosphere of what was once a truly magical lodge experience.

Road to the establishment was awful. Just needed to know in advance. The report needs serious maintenance of the small things. Billedcas a bit luxurious but more family and fun oriented.

The receptionist, I didn't get her name. She was so welcoming and friendly. Made our stay comfortable.

Breakfast was enjoyable, but the staff’s warmth and professionalism truly stood out. Their service was of the highest standard in my view. The location added to the perfection of the overall experience. In short: Great food, perfect setting, and staff whose hospitality made it unforgettable.

We had a wonderful stay. The young man who checked us in at reception was excellent, very welcoming and made sure the room was up to standard although unfortunately I did not get his name. There was also a gentleman named Gift, who I’m not sure if he is a curator or part of the restaurant team, his knowledge of fly fishing was impressive and he took us through the journeys captured there with such passion that we were completely engaged in his stories. Dinner was mouthwatering. I had the rump steak and my husband had the ribs, both cooked exactly as requested. Breakfast was also lovely, fresh and enjoyable. Once again, Gift shared insightful information about how everything there is organic, and the waiter who served us breakfast provided great service. Overall, it was an excellent experience with warm hospitality, knowledgeable staff and delicious food.

What we did not particularly enjoy was that the menu felt quite limited, as we had hoped for a wider selection, especially on seafood options. I was also not sure whether the lady at reception was shy but I could barely hear what she was saying most of the time. Perhaps a bit of refresher training in guest interaction and communication could help. That said it was not a major issue and did not significantly affect our overall stay.
